The report of the special agent of the census bureau for Williamsburg county-, September 17, shows that, prior to September 1, there was ginned in Williamsburg county 29 bales of cotton from the 1917 crop.as compared with 103 bales ginned to September 1. 1917. The rains last Sunday were general in the eastern part of the State from Kingstree to Columbia. We know this to be a fact, for the editor and ! Mr J L Gaitley,special factory representative of the Chase Bros' piano works, has opened a display and sales room in the Nexsen building on Main street. The big room is well stocxed with a handsome line of pianos and other instruments. The music rendered daily by their Exceltone piano attracts ^considerable attention. This branch house, we understand, is to be permanently located here and is a welcome addition to the business interests of the town. While the Editor was in Columbia Saturday and Sunday he had the pleasure of meeting a number of former Kingstreeans, among them Messrs M B Thomas, J P Davis and Miss Mary Nettles, also Capt McDavid Horton and Lieuts Heyward and Eugene Oliver, who are stationed at Camp Jackson and are very enthusiastic over the progress made at the big cantonment in the training of recruits. WRECK Engineer Samuel H Burgess Meets Death: at McCrea, Georgia Relatives, and a large circle oi friends in this community, were shocked Saturday afternoon to learn of the death in a railroad accident of Mr Samuel Hey ward Burgess, eldest son of Mr and Mrs R E Bur- 1 ?ess of the Bethel section, and a brother of Mrs R D Mills and Miss 1 Retha Burgess of Kingstree.
