WILSON'S METHODS ANGERED 'ITALIA'N President's Publication of'Position lie. garded as an Insult by 'Orlando. 'Paris, April 24.-Preinler Orlando and the other members of the fItaian delegation apparenty are much angrier over President Wilson's world-wide publication of his position-on -the Ad riatic question than over his oipposi tion to their claims and the fact that the diplomatic procedure has been violated and what is termed an insult offered to the Italian goverment be cause the president made his position known to the Italian people over the head of peace delegaton. Dicussing this contention today a member Of- the American iece -dele gation says: "Flume or nothing" has been the 'Italian delegation's uinaltera ble formula for nearly eight weeks and their firm insistence upon the set tlement of the Adriatic question before an agreement on th peace terms for ced President Wilson'to tell the world where he stands. The atmosphere of the conference simply had to be cleared, and there was no other nway for the president to clear it. "This statement was more for the American public than for the Italian public and it was of such an unmis takable character that it should not leave any one in the dark as to the Ameriean. Position on - secret agree mnents". The effort of the Europeans to in voke their rules of diplomatic proced urc and the conflicting statements, clouded under obscurity have been noted by the American delegates and correspondents who are endeavoring to obtain the actual facts. The pro fessions of surprise by the Italians of President Wilson's statement are amazing to the correspondents, who have positive knowledge that the state ment was submitted to Premier Orlan do several days before its publication and that he sought advice about draft ing a reply. -Many conflicting acounts of the events immediately preceding Signor Orlando's announcement of his depar ture have been ,printed in the Paris papers, some of which -profess to quote the 'premier. But these statements have been disavowed by Signor Or lando, who requested the press to a wait an offical signed statement. In the meantime all Paris is dis cussing the Italian situation and in dulging in speculation and what-would 'happen were Italy to break with the conference and insist upon keeping troops in Flume. Griffitl Spectacle Coming. TlItugh special arrangements just completed, David Wark Griffith's tre mendous spectacle, "Hearts of the World" with a special symphony or chestra, has been secured for a limited engagement here and will be seen at the Opera House two days, May 5th and 6th, twice daily, 3 and 8:30 p. m. "Hearts of the World" is the big Grifith production on iwhich this mas ter genius spent more than eighteen months, and during the making of which he was in France working un der the auspices and with the hearty co-operation of David Lloyd George, Prime 'Minister of England, and other British and French ofilcials. This, however, does not indicate that "Hearts of the World" is a war play, for Mr. Grifith hia been exceptionally anxious to have it known that this lat est effort is a simple love story with the recent war serving only as the background. He describes it as "the story of a village; an old fashioned play with a new fashioned theme." The unfolding of the romance takes place in a French village prior to and dur ing the German occupation, and all the experiences of the French through out those trying times are graphically depicted as only Griffith can do it. Those who have seen his former triumph, "The Birth of a Nation," will realize just what this means, for Crif fth is a producer who masterfully stops at nothing to accomplish his ends. 'Some idea of the magnitude of "Iearls of the World" may be gained from the fact that more than one mil lion men and women figure in the story, as do fifty thousand horses, squadrons of airplanes, fleets of Zep pelins, hundreds of lumbering tanks in action and miles of artillery. Both the exterior and the interior of Lloyd Georg's headquarters at No. 10 Downing Street, London, where President Wilson took luncheon on the second day of his visit to England, are shown In the production, as well as the very roads over which the Pres ident traveled on his visit to the bat tiellelds.
