H? vVOODWAKD. Kditor THURSDAY NOVEMBER 21 1912 That the county papers of Siut-b Carolina a a a general rule, are mblisbed and conducted with an eve single to the common good o! the public, from whence como their customers and subscribers. As a general rule they stviv. to please fcuosc whoso patronage they ecpy. Many times in the course of a year, the37 get their issues on the press and " 1 3 mai ll>H niit get the inmneu pctycio to subscribers, only under the most J tryiag conditions and difficulties. It bus been said teal there is only one other business more trying and annoying than the publication of a counly paper, and that was the running of a saw mill. What we want to get at is this, that while the country papers are always striving with might and main to uuild up the county and tne State, doing everything in the power of the management to please and benotit the sub seribers of the paper and the public generally, there are many individuals among the masses of the people who tre constantly expecting too mnch, laboring under the impression that a county weekly can do everything, having unlimited capacity, and constantly complaining that tnmo urt.irift or hem that they war*. personally interested in, failed to get primed in tho news columns. Thi* class of people full to loa^ at tbe situation as a wholo, and only view the matter from iheir owu individual, selfish standpoint. They seem to haye the inborn idea thai the paper is not being run for their & benefit solely, but that it should be, and there are no others in the world who are entitled to con deration and attention, let alone mut'p. Yes wo received two letters last week, couched in terms that were hard io take, and the only source of complaint was that two articles, in which only a very sma'l class of people, if any, could possibly feel any interest, had missed the columns of this paper and happen to fall into the waste basket. How much better would it be if those who wish to blame us in this way, would take a broad guage view of the matter, and always remember that the paper is doing every thing it can for ;vi of the people, and when any thi; { is left out, it is for tbe very good reason that there was not space to accommodate it. Long and short articles are prepared for publication . We want them and in fact solicit them. We can only undertake h ugh u> publish as many of them as we ci i get into our space, But some one of those hereinbefore reerred to would answerback and ask why we did not place the article in * ?- rilana nf SOirift of the IUC jjujjei 11- w ? advertisement's carried in the same issue. This question is easily answered. It is because the paper has| to depend for its main income upon the pay for advertising space. Should we leave out the ads. there would not be a sufficient income to allow us to print the paper at all. We v ant a better understanding between us and the masses of the people who read our paper, and we would be glad if we could impress the fact home to them, that w.j make their cause our cause, and we abor daily in word and deed to auvance this great county in which wo iive, doing all that we can, aud omitting everything that hat, a tendency to injure. Porto R ico's New Wonder, From far away Porto Rico com*1 reports of a wonderful new discovery that is oelieved will vastly benefit the people. Ramon T Marehan, of Barceloneta, writes "Dr King's New Discovery is doing splendid work here. It cured me about five times of terrible coughs and colds, also my brother of a severe cold in his chest and more than 20 others, who used it on my advice.
