Cor ltll.lt lit itkal", 101 Main St., t.\u.i miiia, March 7. Several days atfo a couple of representative of the Standard < )il Company and the American < hi Trust monopoly were in Columbia, and statements from them were published to the effect that the talk about a new company was all huinbuq-, and that the project was a stock-jobbinoone. Notwithstanding those statements. >??, however, ihe new company has been . organized, with live millions of do] lars capital. Mr. Armour was very anxious to come into it, hut Mr. Armour desired to make it a monopoly, when the object of its projectors was to lioht a monopoly, and to be upon the side of the farmerand the people. Consequently Mr. Armour, with all his money, has not been allowed to ?nter the company, but, as stated in the first report from this Ibireau, numbers of others were anxious to take his place and they have done it. It is pretty certain that Messrs. Fred ami .John Oliver were the lirst * . 1 1 r i * io t11111K 01 organizing tins company, ami they have certainly laid many obstacles to overcome in getting just such a one organized as will operate its twenty odd mills in tlu* interest of both the public and stockholders. The Oliver llros. have boon dead in earnest and are so still. Fader their experienced management the great enterprise will flourish. The following in the ollicial statements as obtained by representative of the llureau from the Oliver liros. in as few words as possible it explains the organization of the new company, how and in whose interest it will operate and where its mills will be located: The projectors of the now Southern cotton oil company have had two very serious difficulties to contend with: Firt, to so arrange the affairs of the company that planters and other friends of an independent movement could have an opportunity to become interested in it; and, second, to prevent monopolists and other undesirable persons from gaining control. The company has been formed and it is believed that the above objects have been most sueeessfuly accomplished. The capital is fcr),(H)0,OOO of which ? 1,000,0()6 will remain in the treasury of the company. Four million dollars have been subscrfbed for by a few strong financial friends of the company, who have agreed with the projectors to surrender from time to time such pro rata parts of it as the iiroiivtorsi miiv ili>nim to nl:iei> m thn Lands of Southern plantcis and other desirable friends of an enterprise which is intended to promote tno interest of the public at largo, as well as that of the promoters, and thereby become established in public favor and 1)0 upon a firm and lasting basis. The company is incorporated as the Southern Cotton Oil Company, ami will operate under a charter from the State of New Jersey, and is authorized to build mills and factories at the following points: Norfolk, Ya., Wilmington, X. C., Charleston and Columbia, S. C., Savannah, Macon, Augusta and Atlanta, (la., Mobile, Montgomery, Deiuopolis and Sheffield, Ala., Jackson and Meridian, Miss., New Orlenns and Shroveport, La., Memphis, ienn., Houston, Galveston, Dallas and San Antonio, Texas, Littlo ltock, Ark,, and refineries in Kansas City, Mo., Chicago, 111., IMiiladdphia, Pa., Camden, Jersey City and lioboken, New Jersey. The official organization of the j company is as follows: Henry (\ Butcher, president, of Washington Butcher's Sons, Philadelphia; Frederick Oliver, manager; John Oliver, secretary and treasurer, of < )liver Bros., Columbia, S. C.; Daniel A. bumpkins, engineer, of I). A. TompI ' i. / v / 11 I i. XT /I kihp <* vo., vmarioue, . y,. The company will build mills at the points indicated asrapidily as tin- j machinery can be made am 1 ti 10 work | done: mills will be built at the most j desirable poins lirst. With an investment of two and a half millions in new mill property the company will have a capacity to crush as ^ many tons of seed per year as the . American Cotton (hi Trust, which claims to own ninety per cent of existing mills. * With now and improved machinery and designs, the new company can produce an average of live gnfIons of oil per ton more than can be obtained by the average existing * V |P'' ' ' r? * mills, ami an average of fifty pounds of lint ran ho obtained, against twon tv pounds now.
