Dear Editor:-I wiU try und interest you tor a few momonts Christmas has passed and every body enjoyod it. Evertbing passed off quietly excoptouo negro killed and Vi badly used up. Tho farmers have a good start for another year. The most of them I think intend to planta largo cot ton crop judgiug from tho number ot mules that havo been shipped into Sumter. ' Most of tho farmors have sowed a larger acreage in small grain and raisod plenty of hog and homi ny. Mr. Editor I attended tho salo at Dr. J. A. Woodloy's place. Ho sold at auction and low prices too 14 head ot fino mulos and a largo quantity of corn and forage and improved plows. Wo regret to loso the Doctor. Ho makes a lino neighbor, goo'd physician and a first class larmer and up to dato man all over. Mr. J. M. Woodley spent the night with us a short time ago and told us ho had ruado plenty of mouoy this year-more than any ono year since he had beou farm ing. Ho is an up to date farmer and has plenty of everything. Mr. W. A. Sparks has sold his place at Providence. He sold $51 per aero. It is the best place up thero for its size. You soe by this thoro is no moro cheap land in Sumter. Mr. Sparks' place lay right on the new railroad to Cam don at Dalzell station which bids fair to become a flourishing vil lage. Two new railroads have been built in the county since I moved hore-one, tho Southern, runs right through my place. The other road runs noar Mr. J. M. Woodley They have been of groat service in the way ot hauling. Before it was 10 miles to haul, now it is less than ono. Mr. Editor I could write a great deal moro on this subject, but I must close, for I must toll you about the Christmas party they had at our house Dec. 27th. Yon ought to have been here. It was one of tho "old timers." Suoh as they usod to have in Hebron about 30 years ago. Mr, Wei McCall eau toll you about it. That was the kind we had the other night. Wo were pleased to have with us Misses Virginia Manning and Minnio Adams, both from Marl boro. Their company was greatly enjoyed and wo hope they will como again. If signs do not fail Stacy C. may have to entertain a Sumter boy soon. Mr. Fditor tell Mr. A.. C. Pear son to como again. Alex ia a good fellow. Salesday in January 1901, tho first for the new year and the first for tho century, was marked more by tho very large attendance than for sales or tho incident*, The streets wero crowded all (fify. Thc exhibition of stock was interesting -any ago, size, color, and price. The Cleric had two sales. Auctioner David was kept busy as long as he could see and talk. Only two N. C. wagons made sales of leather, fruit and onions. Tho crowd was order ly although thero wero signs of strong drink seen. Thc exhibitions of poultry by Messrs Hamer, Cov ington, Waddill, E. C. Newton, Adams and Moody were fine, and many sales were made. Mr P. A. Krummel had some choice pigs and Mr. Chris Odom brought out ono cow. More and better stook and lino poultry seems to bo the order now.
