I ' Tethe Owners of Orchard and Vine yards: I beg to offer you the following suggestions about work in orchards ?J fni- month of Dec em. ' _ WW TUlCJiuw ? ? ' b?r: *1 First: iPull the mounds you made in July against the peach borer. In accomplishing this, do not expose the roots too much to the winter freezes, as many young trees were killed last winter by this undue exposure. Imme diately after pulling down the mounds get out the small white grubs or bor ers which are found just beneath the outer bark of the tree. If possi ble apply white wash to the trunk of all fruit trees to keep out all kinds of insects during the winter, j Second: Prune all grape and scup pernong vines during this month. , This is necessary on account of the fact that later pruning will cause severe bleeding and consequently a weakening of the vine. Before doing any pruning, straighten up the ar bar all the trellises and tighten the wire. Train the vines on the trellis to three wires and leave a reasons ' ble amount of fruiting surface for the next crop. All those interested in. orchard work call on me at Batesburg, S. C. W. N. Henderson, f!nuntv Acent t)ec. 11, 1917. i I Chmtrnu Play At Round Hill.
