Jsalah' Butler, convicted of attempted as sault upon a white woman in Little Britton Island, and John Coles, con victed of murder growing out of a rural store robbery, both colored, were today sentenced by Circuit Judge Frank B. Gary in the court of general sessions, to die by elec trocution in the state penitentiary at Columbia on June 21. These are the first sentences un der the new law doing away with hanging in South Carolina. The Jury In Butler's case reached a unanimous verdict after being out all night, expert evidence on in sanity causing the protracted delib erations.
