THE CLINTON CHRONICLE Lydia Mill Newt... Gwinn Returns From Viet Nam CLYDE TEAMMELL Alton Gwinn, ECA, U. S. Na vy, Mrs. Gwinn and children have gone to Alameda, Calif., to live, where he is stationed, fol lowing his return from nearly a year aboard the USS Carrier Coral Sea in Viet Nam. The Gwlnns came from Jacksonville, Fla., here to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Mitchell and his relatives near here before leaving for his assignment in Alameda. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Lanford visited their son, Johnny, at Clemson University on Sunday. Johnny arrived home Tuesday evening for the Christmas holi days with his parents. Pfc. Johnny Walker of Fort Jackson, is spending a 14-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walker, before go ing to Fort Bliss, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones, Joe and James Coker of Green ville, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mason Coleman and other relatives. Jim Dean was called to Phe- nix City, Ala., Saturday doe to the death of his brother, Ben Dean. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Williams visited the former’s son, Ed ward Williams, Mrs. Williams and daughters in Newberry on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Campbell and Mike were called to Greer last week because of the death of her mother, Mrs. Mamie Steading. Mrs. Steading had vis ited the Campbells many times. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Trammell attended the funeral of her cou sin, Glenn Kirby, In Charlotte, N. C., Friday. Durifig the past week they also visited in Green ville and motored to Grandfath er Mountain, N. C. Mrs. Walter Bowen of Green ville, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. James Campbell. Mrs. Camp bell and Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Campbell were in Greer Wed nesday due to the death of Mrs. Mamie Steading. Frank Walker is to enter the Veterans hospital in Columbia for treatment. PARTY LAST WERE The Young Womans’ Auxiliary enjoyed n Christmas party at the home of Mrs. R. E. Whit mire on Monday of last week. The group enjoyed supper. At each place an initialed pin was used as place cards. Gifts were exchanged and carols and ballads enjoyed. Some of the gills had their ukes to accompany the singing. The Whitmire home was love ly with the Christmas deora tions. LYDIA BAPTIST CHURCH CHRISTMAS PROGRAM _ A white Christmas program will be given Sunday evening at the regular worship hour of 7:10 on Decemhtr 19. Benjamin Franklin Sample, 82, died Thursday afternoon in a Columbia hospital after a short illness. Native of Saluda County, son of the late Benjamin Franklin Sample Sr. and Mrs. Emma Blease Sample, be lived in Jo anna 40 years and had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Tom Naomi Warren of West Colum bia, 2 1-2 years. He was a mem ber of Epworth Methodist Church of Joanna. Surviving are a son, James W. Sample; two other daugh ters, Mrs. Rhett (Mary Nell) Abrama of Joanna and Mrs. John W. (Margaret) Weathers of Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, H. B. Sample of Macon, Ga.; and three grandchildren. Funtral services were conduc ted Saturday at 2:20 p. m. at Epworth Methodist Church by Rev.
