City Chief of Police J. W Power Mid the places entered were Spratt’s Grocery, Laurens Distrib uting Co., Carolina Milling Co. and Star Cleaners. Hie chief said entry was gained 1 through a window in three of the es tablishments and a door was forced at the fourth, the Laorens Distrib uting Co. The break-ins were discovered Thursday morning when the {daces were opening for business. Approximately $100 was taken from an unlocked safe and cash drawer at the Laurens Distributing Co., and $40 was removed from a cash register at Star Cleaners. Nothing was reported missing at the other two establishments. Chief Power said Chappels was apprehended about 8:00 a. m., Thursday. The chief said the sus- P«ct told officers he had entered the places about 1:00 a. m. Chief Power said the prisoner toM him he had planned to be mar ried Saturday and that he needed money. Wlarrants were sworn out before Magistrate Lucille M. Watts. Two of the warrants charged Chappels with house-breaking with intent of committing a crime.
