Mr and Mrs. James Johnson. Party Honors Child On Fifth Birthday Lorraine Plaxico. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Plaxico, was given a party on Monday, the occasion of her fifth birthday. Eighteen little boys and girls were invited for an afternoon of outdoor activity and games during which pictures were made of the group. * Assisting Mrs. Plaxico were Mrs. Wylie Monk and Mrs. Jasper Row land. Centering the refreshments table from which punch, ice cream and cakes were served, was the prettily decorated doll birthday cake. Individual cakes were also decorated with doll heads. Party fa vors were given the guests. Local People Attend Party In Spartanburg A number of local residents at tended when Mr. and Mrs. Gary Martin entertained in honor of J. H Witherspoon of Columbia on Sun day afternoon at their home in Spar tanburg Mr. Witherspoon was vis iting his daughter, Mrs. Lewis Bai ley, who were also guests for the occasion. Mrs. Martin was assisted by her daughters. Misses Emily and Banna Piaster Martin, who served from a table centered with pastel sweetpeas and pink candles in three-branched silver candelabra. Assorted party dainties including sandwiches, sal ad, cheese straws, tarts and punch were served. Guests from Clinton included Mrs. Julian Coleman, Mrs. Nene D. Workman. Mias Irene Workman, Mrs. L. A. Blakely, Mrs Raymond Pitts, Mrs. J. B. Speake. Miss Nancy Owens. Miss Agnes Davis. Mrs. F. M Boland, Mrs. B. B. Ballard, Miss Margaret Blakely, and Miss Lily Yarborough, all former teachers un der Mr. Witherspoon when he was superintendent of the schools here. During the social hour refresh ments mmmmwmw w Hostesses Entertain Jointly Thursday For Luncheon and Party Among enjoyable social events of the week were the luncheon and bridge party given on Thursday by Mrs. FYank Fowler, Mrs. George Saunders and Mrs. Marvin Manley at the Joanna Club house. Thirty friends attended the buffet luncheon at twelve o’clock. Roses, snapdragons, iris and coral bells were used throughout the receiving rooms and for the central bouquet for the luncheon table. Similar ar rangements in silver containers adorned the tables where covers were laid. Mrs. Frances Warner assisted the hostesses in serving. Guests were invited for six tables of bridge at three o'clock. After the games a salad plate and des sert course were served. Mrs. C. W. Law was top scorer and Mrs. Caldwell Henderson won second honors. Mrs. Gray Barron Poplin of Greenville was an out- of-town guest for the parties. Memorial Program Given For Mrs. Stutts At Legion Auxiliary A memorial service for Mrs. F. M. Stutts was given by Mrs. George Watts Copeland at the May meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary held on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Howard Watkins on the Musgrove Road. During the program seven red roses one each for veterans of World Wars One and Two and the Korean War, widows and orphans of Veterans and those now in hos pitals, and Gold Star Mothers. A white rose was placed for Mrs. Stutts following which Mrs. dope- land read a short tribute. Mrs. Thomas Baldwin president, presid ed. A corsage was presented to Mrs. Nene D. Luncheon Honors Mrs. Fraser, Visitor, and Mrs. John Harris Honoring her sister, Mrs. Donald Fraser of Savannah, Ga., who was here for the week-end and Mrs. John W. Harris who will soon be leaving to make her home in Spar tanburg. Mrs. T. Layton Fraser entertained a few friends for a luncheon at noon on Saturday. The hostess was assisted by Mrs Henderson Pitts who greeted the guests. Dark red roses were combined with white peonies to decorate the living room. Buzhardt was in stalled as president of the Business and Professional Woman's Club for the coming year at a dinner meeting on Tuesday evening at the Hotel Mary Musgrove. MSss Margaret Blakely presided over the meeting at which plans were made for a tea for senior citi zens to be held the latter part of May. Two new members. Miss Barnett | Spratt and Mrs. R. G.
