Ste-| phens: Mr. Stephens, tho apologist of Grant, will please answer tho following questions for the en? lightenment of his constituents; Why did Grant detain Congress when about to adjourn and send in his recommendation of the passage of the Enforcement Act? Why did he recommend the pas? sage of tho Civil Bights Bill, and give the'impression that he would veto the Bame if passed, and when it passed sign tho said bill? Why did he recommend the overthrow of the Garland Govern? ment and the substitution of the Brooks Government at the point of the bayonet? Why did he sustain Sheridan when the public denounced him? Why did he appoint Major Mer? rill to ride down the people of Louisiana when he had dis? graced the uniform of a Federal officer in South Carolina, and had received the pay of a rondos' go? vernment for arresting- innocent people and collecting vitiated evi? dence to convict tho same? I- want the above answered with? out sophistry, dodging or subter? fuge. _* "I will meet you in?," he was saying, as he stepped off the street car while it was in motion, but he never finished the sentence. If he meant to say in the mud, he cer? tainly kept his word, for when he got up he was the saddest spectacle in, all the town. One of the speakers at a recent temperance meeting, in Boston, charged that lots of Boston women chew tobacco, and said that he could get ten men to leave off chewing where one woman will j give np the weed. In one part of Norway, the long? est day is three months, and yet there is no daily paper in the whole section; neither is thero a monthly magazine; as no publisher could afford t<> bring but three issues in oneway. Gen.' Albert Pike has recovered from Mexico ?50,000 in gold for the 'families of. Generals Parsons and- Standioh. These Generals were1 ex-Confederates in the service of Mexico, and fell by the hands of guerillas. An actor being recently absent from rehearsal, the stage-manager said he must be fined. ''But before he. is fined he must be found," suggested the low comedy actor of the company. A sharp talking lady was re? proved by her husband, who re? quested her to keep her tongue in her mouth. "My dear," she said, "it's against the law to carry con? cealed weapons."
