?CISOEIiLANT TratT TO MB. DAVTS.-The New Tqrk Herald's Fortress Monroe cor? respond t says: Jefferson Davis has recently been visited in his casemate prison, by bia old spiritual adviser, tiie pastor of St. Paul's church in Si dimond, who spent a day with him. The saerameht was adminis? tered to him and everything done that could be, by his old religious teacher and adviser, thr< ugh Scrip? tural reading and prayer, ?o give him peace of mind and that cheerful con? tent and resignation following tho tight kind of teaching and faith. During his imprisonment Mr. Davis' only religious attendant and adviser has been the Post Chaplain, Kev. Mr. Chiwis, a most amiable and ex? cellent man, and worthy and devout clergyman. It was natural he shold tike to be attended by his old pastor, and no one will be inclined, I am surev to blame him for asking the privilege of his attendance upon, him, or rind fault with the request being complied with. DISCHARGE OF CIVILIANS.-General Grant has issued an order directing all department commanders to dis? charge at once all civilians employed in their commands, except clerks whose services cannot lie dispensed with. In all cases where necessity requires a continuance of the work now performed by civilians, such as contract surgeons, wagon-rna-sters, teamsters, &c, men will be detailed from, the ranks for such duty.
