Ridgeland, June 13: Jasper county ^ today Is facing one of the most se^ rious problems ever presented in this section the boll weevil. Within the last few days some of the largest farmers in the country have estimated that at least 60 per cent of the cotr ton planted is at this time infested with the weevil. In some instances fields with cotton about two feet high are being totally consumed, the owners stating that they are unable to find any squares that have not been punctured. Some of the farmers are even plowing up their cotton and putting in corn and peas, with the hopes of making at least a crop of hay on what had always been their best cotton land. Other farmers are preparing 10 fight the weevil and are making preparations to put a poison solution on the cotton stalk under the direction of county farm agent. While most of the farmers expected that the boll weevil would put in its appearance in large numbers this year, none expeoted that much damage would be done until the last of July or the first of August and therefore planted their crop earlier than usual, hoping to ^ make the crop before the weevil got W started in its work of destruction. It is thought that the excessive humidity has caused the weevils to start sooner than usual as for the past two weeks it has rained almost every day. Under the present outlook, it appears that the cotton crop, which is practically the only money crop planted in Jasper county, will be curtailed between 60 and 75 per cent. Special polices. June 6-13-17-20-24-27 46 Look Before You Leap! It is a fact with a big F that tne average individual in buying life insurance one of the most important things any man ever buys so far as . the future of his family and himself are concerned buys the agent's talk instead of a contract that is backed by a company that under no circumstances that might develop would even consider doing anything except the right thing. The manner in which the ] Mutual Benefit treated the beneficiaries of soldiers who lost their lives while defending our country in con- 1 trast with the manner in which some other companies treated the designa- , ted beneficiaries under their policies k is an illustration as to the Mutual Benefit's method, and in a measure * accountable for the saying among ? life insurance agents that "The Mutual J Benefit is the Best Policy Holder's ? Company in the world, but not the ? Best Agent's Company," and assign- ? ing the reason that it would not in- < sure "just anybody and does not pay t agents as big commissions!" Brother t are you interested in either "objection," provided you come up to Mutual Benefit standards yourself. Look before you 1 leap. You will be the man to pav the freight and you should, at least iry s to know exactly what you are going to pay for. SAM M. GRIST Special Agent. 1 ! COTTON MILI I EVERYBODY INTERE | MEET AT COURT!
