schools may be kept beyond the standard of the community. But if the standard of the school is kept in ad1 vance of ths standard of the community the standard of the schools will be everlastingly and eternally moving upward and forward. If there are any who claim that they "have done enough for the schools," investigation will show that they have never done ^ anything at all except such as they may have been compelled to do, and even at that the schools have done Viom than thev have done for Ilivtv 4Vi MAVM. - W the schools. There is a most pronounced relation between the schools and the ownership of property; but that relationship is exactly the opposite from that which has been suggested above. Property values have never suffered on account of contributions to schools, and they will never suffer on this account. On the other hand, arrested development of the schools means depreciation and retrogression of property values. If property values are now on a standstill, which is not admitted, it is because the school fa^ cHities are at a standstill. If properly values are to decline it will be because school facilities will decline. If people who own property seek the appreciation of that property they can do no better than to put forth quick and mn nhoral efforts in behalf of their SCbOOlS. LOCAL LACONICS Devastated by Hail. Swanger was 1 guilty enough, of course; but he has been sufficiently punished, and the pa- , role is about the right thing. At Filbert Today. The train of trucks that car ries the 1 big demonstration outfit of the Inter national Harvester company, passed ] through Yorkville yesterday afternoon , on its way to Filbert, where it is to , spend all of today up to 10 o'clock to night. There were nine or ten big j truck loads in all and a passing glimpse ; of the machinery and fixtures they car- , ried left no reason to doubt that today's demonstration will be something worth while. From Filbert today, the , demonstration plant goes to Oak Ridge school house, where there will be an" other exhibition on Thursday. * SOUTH CAROLINA NEWS. J News and Courier, Friday: Circuit Judge R. Armstrong tent meeting closed Sun- i day, June 1, after tunning two weeks and one day. The results are incalcu- , lable, but some of the tangible results ] are: The whole community and sur- < rounding country seem to be really revived. It is the opinion of many of the leading Christians of the place that Dr. Git's sermons were purely Scrip- , tural and consequently powerful. There were 401 conversions, 213 of whom ex- , Teased a desire to join the Baptist church, 74 the Methodist and 39 the j Presbyterian and 75 are undecided as yet. In addition to this, there were nearly 500 reconsecrations on the part ( of Christians, who pledged themselves * to be more loyal to Christ. Chester, June 8: The churches of Chester Sunday afternoon decided to have a great religious revival here , from S? ptember 14 to October 12, at which Gypsy Smith, Jr., the well- J known evangelist, will preach, while 1 Charles Butler, said to be the greatest ' singer Billy Sunday has ever had with ' ; him, will conduct song service. This afternoon's meeting was presided over by the Rev. John E. Purcell, Jr., pastor of Purity Presbyterian church, and was held at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian church. A number of interesting talks were made. Strong com^ mittees from each church were appointed to look after arrangement of details of the revival.
