H " ft .< - ^ 4-~ ~ 1 I c Automobile Accident L. Stephed Lindier, a young white man of the Hollow Greets section of this county, Was instantly killed when an automobile driven by Mr. Ross A. Barre, with whom he was riding, turned turtle in the public highway a mile and a halt north of Gilbert between I'l' and 12 o'clock Monday night. Mr.. Mr. Barre ami Lindlef were eitfoute i home from Columbia, where Mr. Berre purchased the machine. The car was going at a high rate of speed, down grade, when withouu a second's warning it began to skid, according to the statement of the driver, and in an instant it had turned a doubie somersault, pinning Mr. Lindier beneath the left front wheel and throwing Mr ' ? k/v . Zachari Taylor, he went back to where the wreck occured only to find hie companion pinned beneath the machine and life extinct. The force of the machine crashed the right chest of young Lindler and he was otherwise injured. "It was all done so quiclk that I can't tell how it happened," said Mr. Barre. "I lost control of the machine when it began to skid, and in an instant the car was wrecked." W. C. Weed, coroner of Lexington county, held an inquest over the remains of young Lindler yesterday morning, the verdict of the jury> being that the deceased came to his death by an accident, tha car being driven by JR. A. Barre. Mr. Lindler was about 23 years of age and one of the most popalar young men of the-rHollow Creek section of the county. He was the young-; eat son of Prof. and Mrs. a. a. nanaier, one of thetbeet known families in this miction of the State. Stephen Lindler was a former stndent of Olemson college and numbered his friends by the iobre." > * / . His remains were buried at Mt;< Pleasant Lutheran church, in the upper section of the county, at 11 this morning. ' This is the first serious automobile ! accident in the history of Lexington county, and it has been the subject of muen discussion on every side^ Mr. Barre has been for a number of years a rural mail carrier going out from Gilbert, He* has been driving a car for several years, but he had just purchased the touring car, which he was driving Monday night, in Columbia. He has been accustomed to driving a Ford Roadster. He i9 deeply affected by tie tragedy, and, along with the relatives of the dead man, is receiving the sympathy of mahy !
