The officers hearing the shot believed they were about to be ambushed and dropped to cover. They waited for other shots, and then cautiously ventured out and followed the direction of the shot. In an old field, face downward, with his gun lying by his ! side, Bradley was found with his brains blown out. Sometime Friday Robert Nix, living in the vicinity, went to a straw stack where Bradley was concealed. Thinking that Nix was hunting for him, although armed with a shotgun, Bradley offered to surrender. Nix told him thatr he was not hunting for him. I Subsequently Nix reported seeing him to Sheriff J. People of Lexington who suffer with sick kidneys and bad backs want a kidney remedy that can be depended upon. The best is Doan's Kidney Pills, a medicine for the kidneys only, made from pure roots and herbs, and the only one that is backed by cures in Lexington. Here's Lexington testimony; Lewie Hall, S Main St., Lexington, S. C., says: "I suffered from kidney trouble for several years and there were severe pains in my back. The kidney secretions were very irregular in passage, at times copious while at others scanty and I could scarce void them. I grew weak, lost flesh, could not sleep well and was nervous and irritable. I finally procured Doan's Kidney Pills at the Kauffman Drug Co. and began using them. I can honestly say that I never found a remedy that gave me so much relief. I am not as yet cured but Doan's Kidney Pills have helped me to such a great extent that I have no hesitatiou in recommending them to other sufferers." For sale by all dealers. There has been much discussion in several newspapers lately as to the | law requiring the public roads to be [ posted with signboards at all forks or crossings. The law is very clear but it is not generally enforced. Follow ing is the law 011 the subject: "Sec. 446. Any person or persons who shall cut down, burn or deface any mile post or stone, erected by the county commissioners or county supervisor of any county, he, she or they, upon conviction thereof shall forfeit and pay the sum of ten dollars, to be recovered by indictment or information before any court of competent jurisdiction. "Sec. 447, If any person shall wilfully demolish, throw down, alter, or deface any guide-post, every person so offending shall, upon conviction thereof before any magistrate of the proper county be fined a sum of not exceeding ten dollars and the cost of suit, or be sentenced to labor on the public works of the county for a term of not more than thirty days, and the money when collected, shall be by the magistrate collecting the same, paid over to the county tieaiurer. "Sec. 448. The county board of commissioners of any county neglecting to cause the public highways in their county to be posted and numbered and to have pointers erected at each fork of said highwajs declaring the direction of such highways shall be liable to pay the sum of ten dollars for each and every said neglect, to be reoovered by indictment in the court of general sessions of the counA U : _T- ^ W 4-n vy Wltuiui wuiuu uuc aauic uv^uto, kv be collected and paid to the treasurer of such countjNfor the use of the county. Provided, ^hat no county commissioner shall bkliable to said penalty who shall put said pointer at such times as he shall bdVe^iis division of roads worked." ; ' The civil code of South Carolina has alsojiauction bearing upon this which gives the county commissioner authority to erect 6uoh sign boards and charge the cost to the county, and the neglect of this can be construed by the public to mean that they are indifferent to the convenience of the public. The section is as follows: "Sec. 1,337. Each road overseer within his district may erect and keep up, at the expense of the connty, at the forks and cross roads a post and guide-board, or finger board, containing an inscription in legible letters, directing the way and distance to the town or towns, of public places, situated on each road respectively."?!
