The fcamber of cotton spindles in the world, as shown by the report, is 128,332,971. As nearly as it can be determined the amount of cotton consumed was 29,49S,441 bales, a weekly consumption of 374,874 bales. This is not, however, the total consumption for toe world, as in a number of eastIern countries and in South and Central America large quantities of cotton Are grown and consumed which do not enter into commercial channels,' and therefore can., not be estimated with any certain ty.^The figures indicate, however, that the United States famished two-thirds of the supply of In the exportation of cotton raanu- . factares, the United Kingdom ranks : first, followed in the order of their importance by Germany, the United States, British India, France, Switz7 . erland, Japan, the Netherlands, and ( Italy. As regards imports of these t manufactures British India-leads with ( ^133,182,701, closely followed by China with $12$,238,539, and the United | States, with $73,704,836. The report ! , closes with an interesting^ diagram illustrative of the processes through which cotton passes in the couree Of its manufacture. . The State Fair is over and it was certainly a grand success in exhibits and attendance. The crowd in Columbia, and on the fair grounds, were larger than we ever no'ticed/ih xha city. E very'eectionof the State was well represented and all seemed to enjoy themselves hugely. The circus on Saturday closed the festivities and enjoyments of the week. The South Carolina Agricultural and Mechanical society^ in annual session Thursday elected Mr. J. G. Mobley, of Fairfield, president, to succeed Mr. G. A. Guignard. The vice presidents now holding office were unanimously Reelected. Mr. J. L. Mimnaugh is the vice president from this Congressional district. Mr. A. W. Love was reelected Secretary as also was Mr. A. G. LaMotte, treasurer. Senater D. F. Efird was again elected general manager. Besolntions were adopted thanking the retiring president for the efficient work he has done during the tittle yeara of his tenure. Next Tuesday I start out on my annual rounds throughout the county accompanying the County Treasurer cm his tax collections. Edmund, Gaston, Cross Roads, Macks, Swansea, Red Store and Brookland will complete the first week. Second week we start at Pelion and thence around and down the. railroad to Gilbert. 1 _ .1 AUiru \vtiK-K we are iu uue ruu. no want everyone of our subscribers to : > have their money ready for us. We need it all, and trust they will appredate our kindness in accommodating them through the dull season of the year. Meet us promptly. Don't wait for us to look you up, but meet us and pay up, and bring a new subscriber with you. These trips among our people are greatly enjoyed by us. We like to mingle with them and hear of the p . > success on their farms; to see them independent and "happy in their homes. a/; * ^ One kind of press notice is the attention a girl gives to hug, but not equal to the squeeze some of the .girls received on the side walks in Columbia during the Fair, which caused them to gigle powerfully. A |. I whip in the hands of the girls was a sign that they were out for fun, but really some were rediculous. But when in Roam do as Roam does. It ia claimed by those present that |v'. . the 39th annual State ball in the hall * * . of the house of representatives on ^Thursday night, was a most brilliant 'Iggent, far surpassing any of its predecessors, being largely attended by ^g^society people of the State.
