The snmmer term of the court of general sessions was .convened here on Monday morning with Hon. J. C. Klugh, Judge presiding. Solicitor Geo. Bell Tim merman was on hand and the court officials had everything in readiness, but for the absence of Court Stenographer McFeat, who was down at Tybee, little could be accomplished Monday except taking the pleas of the gamblers, all of whom plead guilty, as follows: ~ " fir ITfie urooKian gamuicjra V/auiu uaov I | and were each given $15 as follows: F. M. Kelly, J. F. Scott, Lee Smith, T. D. Mitchell, Wyatt Barefoot. A. (C. Taylor, P. E. Derrick, George Lorick, H. H. Haltiwanger, E. E. Boyer and Wm. Mayres. Attorney Pringle T. Youmans appeared for those from Richland county and asked for mercy, and promised that hereafter they would ' 'stay over the river." The next batch were all colored and they got $15each as follows: Chappel j Simmons, Ernest Wise, Boozer Gauze, I West Nelson and Isaac Walker. Judge Klugh has a good eye, for when the last gambler came up, he at once recognized the prisoner, 'having sentenced him when here before. He jave his name as Albert Walker this tame and Tump Walker before. He got off for $20. They all paid up. ig| The first trial yesterday was James Walker, colored, charged with grand larceny, the stealing of three gold watches and one ring from Mrs. Lizzie Boozer at the Drafts hotel in Aug. 1904. Mr. Asbill appeared for the defense. The jury gave a verdict cf acquittal. ? > ; Next came Ed. Drafts, colored, ; charged with stealing a sack of flour, peck of meal and four pounds of bacon from A. G. Spradley on August 1, 1906. Drafts plead his own defense and went down for six months on the gang. The grand jury returned a true bill against Mollie Wessinger, colored, charged with burning the dwelling and barns of Mrs. Kats Amick on V Jan'y 1, 1906. She was arraigned but . not ready for trial, and was given a 4 day to get her witnesses. The grand jury returned true bills as to Hampton Boland, for seduction; Dr. Ollie C. Holley, practicing medi| cine without license; J. Davis Gantt ^ and Rosalie Sternenberg, adultery. Returned "No Bill" as to Tilman Rawls, arson; Corris M. Mettze, as??' sault and battery with intent to kill; * J. Wyat Barefoot, assault and battery with intent to kill, and carrying consi caaled weapons. The solicitor nol prossed the following cases: Decame Pond, assault with intent to kill; J. A. Fincher and Jas. ? Wiggington, assault and battery with intent to kill.
