THE JLAbi U? 12US raiUIn our last issue, wo gave ot^r readers an aoconnt, which was necessarily very hurried, of our District Fair, but now "one day after the feast," to go very oxtensively into Retails, would bo "stale, flat and unprofitable." In another column wo publish the report of tho Committee which was unavoidably omitted, and also at lougth tho reports of two Committees, of which a synopsis lias been already j i given ; but beyond these wo shall j i present only a few incidonis chiefly of tho last day of tho Fair. IFriday was tho last day of the j j Fair, and tho interest continued, unabated to tho cloBe. A largo audience ( agsemblod in tho Court llouso where! tho premiums wero distributed under j thoBuperintendoneo of the President, j1 Dol. I). W. Aiken, assisted by the 1 officers of the Sociot}* and the Execu- ! tivo Committee. Tho premiums wore awarded, we think, with duo discrimi- i nation and fairness, and tho distribu-( I tion was very gcnevaUy satisfactory. Tho premiums wero very hand-;] Bomoly gotten up by tuo ZVIossrs.!, "Whildon & Co., of Charleston, audi were furnished on very liberal terms, j An amusing feuturc of the distribu-l tion was tho awarding of a premium. *n o \r.. v w n v .. 1 1 U' 'U 1 II ik. -1 .VLCf, V< liu ' (that is to sny tho dog) had (listin-j guiebed himself during tho Fair as i tho proprietor of a patent churn, j1 Col. Cothran on behulf of tho Exofc'rt- j( tive Committee stated that though for;, 11 good reasons tbo churn was not enti- . tied to a premium, yet **tl?o dog as an ^ invention of Mr. Xante was certainly untitled to one." The dog was then ' introduced, and after a performance * upon his churn, was decorated with a medal amid tho acclamations of the 1 audience. Mr. Nance informs us that \ the dog has been churning butter for , him every day for the last throve years occupying about fifteen minutbs each , time. lie is a enrinsity. After tbo distribution of premiums in the Court.Housc, it was announced that ft purse of twenty-five dollars had been made up, to be awarded-to the best rider. Then ensued the most attractive and exciting performances of the Fair?feats of superb horsemanship, showing equally the kill, graco, and reeklessncss of the riders. . After repeated trials tho Committee felt themselves unable to docido between four of the conipetiton, and hence awarded the premium to each of the four?McBsrs. ETugh W. Rogers, J. M. Jordan, Jametf Norwood, jr., and B. Crawford. A parse of was then made np to be given to tho best driver, and there followed a soenecemiading tho f elasaical student of thp6e"who de? t Hgbt tp OQlleet the Olympic dost in , the chariot race, and whom the , noble prize exalts to the gods, the rulers of tho earth."
