Laney, Esq., State Senator From Chesterfield county, leaves Saturday for Columbia to prepare for ihe opening of the General Assembly of South Carolina, which convenes next Tuesday. Mr. Laney is one of the leaders in the State Senate, being chairman of several of the most important committees, including that of military affairs. On New Year's night the Misses Schroyer entertained their friends with a dance at their home near Che raw. pany 01 unesternekl young people motored over to attend the dance, among whom were Miss Katherine Bureh, of Dallas, Texas, Miss Claudia Sullivan, Miss Pearl Turner, Mr. Ben Gulledge and Mr. Ed Gulledge. A very enjoyable evening was spent. Three important business firms of Chesterfield are this week on the j move. The Amus-U Theatre is no more, and is giving place to the Chesterfield Drug Co. The Redfearn-Rivers Co. will move into their building vacated by the C. D. Co. and when this is accomplished the men's store of II. W. Pusser & Sons will move from the south side of Main street to their new quartors in the building vacated by the R.-R. Co. in Vinir now * + # The Rev. and Mrs. J. L. ""yler have returned from a visit to their relatives in Aiken County. Mr. Tyler said that one traveling salesman, in that section reports having sold sixteen carloads of salt in that section this fall. The boll weevil will hit those people next summer and they are getting ready for it, not by salting down the land but by salting down more meat than was ever raised before in the southwestern part of this State.
