After the reading of the minutes w-- by the secretary, the chairman, L Miss Clark, introduced Mis, Boyd I < | and Miss Bradlev who discussed "Diagnostic Studies in Arithme. Miss Boyd opened the discussion with "The purpose of Diagnosis." A teacher who participated in an. experiment found that diagnosis revealed hr bits of work which they t had not realized pupils possessed. He stated that very often teacbers dy mot-take time to study__ the test of~pupils.~gmh=he?hoped- this year, that type of work wcruld be stressed. Mk Johnson visited the groun and entnered enthusiastically Into the discussions. He stressed keep ing in mind the life situation of the child. He^rlso contributed much of the poor work done by pupils to the unsatisfactory methods used b*- the teachers. She is muriouw to find out the "Whys?" The -director, Mr. Madden, sug gested informal meetings; and it was decided that five teachers ?wcruld submit clrss problems taken from the Diagnostic Chart for study at the next meeting! All teachers were asked to read the "34 Year Book'* and come prepared to-enter whole-heartedly into the discussions, An Arithmetic Research Com mittee was also appointed.
