Attorney Mance is the only Negro dep; _ uiy"on the staff of David M. LewIs, prosecuting attorney of that , county. Lawyer Mance is the son of Mrs. R. W. Mance, Pine street, Columbia, S. C. He is succeeding admirably well in his practice. Mrs. Frances Thomas, home de monstration agent. in Richland county has just develcrped a project in her classes in domestic art that is a very unique piece i of work. From matcfies she has made a beautiful little stand that holds an ash tray and cigar holder. The stand is about 24 inches high.?It fitg in a first and sec- ~ ond base steadily and at the top is a square with the four points. Match srtem9 are laid in iron glue running symetrfcaliy from point to point, placed so as not to shorten any erf the match stems even at the lowest point. Five large boxes of matches were used. The match heads are lighted and the light extinguished immediately with the stems placed in the rows. The whole thing is a fine piece of art. r Bethel church in Georgetown is sending Professor Joseph Beck up ^ to-the Electoral college which con venes in Andrews next month. From this body it is hoped that the venerable educator will be e-< lected to the General conference of the A. M. It was one of the swellest affairs given in Harlem this year. The refreshments were very grand and were enjoyed by all. The refreshments were served as follows:First cocktail was served, second potato salad and pig feet with hot sauce; third gin daisies and Tom Collins; fourth cake and punch, and last the birthday cake was served with wine.
