Oirhes of the Wilmington District and St. Stephen'h Old?Regulars^?a* that held Tuesday night, January ' , 3rd at 8:15 p.m. The pastor, the Rev. Hale B. Thompson, ?in his spirited, impressive und dignif.ed mannei conducted the regular devotional exercises. His declamation o f guidance, activity and blessing for the church was based on the Beatitudes, or the Sermon on the Mount. Matt. 5th chapter, which hp said is the Maeti i Charta of I the Christian church. The Presiding Elder, who left Kittrell College Tuesday evening at C :30 1 o'clock, was feeling as only the Presiding Elder of the Wilmington District can feci when miles divide him frohi St. Stephen's on such a ni^ht. The_ Pastor^Tully ? acquainted with the situation, met the oceasion like a well trained charger when the tire bell calls. By nine o'clock, Rev. Carnes had arrived and the pastor had the Quarterly Conference presenting. the picture of an Anhiial Confrence. Composed of what you ask? All local ministers of the church, trustees, (stewards, class leaders, officers of' Sunday school, the Mis sionary Department, officers of the ACE League, officers of Senior and Gospel choirs and hast but not least, officers of nine boards and clubs and many good members who never fail us. The new machinery of the con ference . was then nrpspnted onH' placed. This consisted of six com " mrttees, each committee composed of five or more members headed with a chairman and. a secretary of their choice. They were* the dollar money, contingent, mission ary, presiding elder, fclass dues, and boards and clubs committees; with a finance committee station ed in the middle aisle. The financial slogan was 25c, 5c and 5c. When the Quarterly Conference' Roll was called of the above mem j bership and the finance paid ori previously paid, the above named, committees reported as follows: dollar money committee $7.20; contingent' committee, $5.90; mis-j sionary committee. $5.40; Presid-j intr Elder committee. $62.05; i class dues committee $1.25; clubs' and boards and departments com! mittee $10.00.
