Alter the classes had been taught by the various teachers the lesson was beautifully reviewed by Rev. Lewis. , 1 Many were out to te morning worship at 11:15 A.M. to hear the inspiring and soul stirring message by the pastor. The evening worship began at 8 P.M. Rev. Lewis preached anothejr wonderful sermon. His text tak^n from St! Matt. 19:27-28 and his' subject was "The Reward For Discipleship". The League opened at 6:^0 P. M. with Mr. Webber the president) in charge. (Our usual hour is 6:01) ( 9 P.M.} After the short devotions, the members were sent to the 3 sections, Junior department. Intermediate department and Senior department with the instructors, Miss Anna B. Lewis, Misses Eva Porterfield and Rachel Kinard, respectively. The members seemed toi like this wqy better and we are hoping t,hat our faculty will grow much larger. We are asking that each person bring another with } - him next Sunday, dune 21!. The topic wiJl be. "Have We Learned Hew To Use Our Minds" 1 This is an interesting topic so come out to help us discuss it. C.?The past Sabbath was a gloriously beautiful day from sunrise to sunset. Birds, flowers, music and the ringing of church bells were in evidence and filled the atmosphere throughout the city. They made forceful and effective appeal to GO to church and worship. The response to this appeal had It's telline effect at our church by I . the large congregation tbat worshiped. Reverence filled th etemj . pie after the consecrat'ional prayer by our pastor and the touching processional hymn rendered by otir nastor and tho touehinc broces sional hymn rendered by the senior choir. The subject of the morning's discourse was "The Voice of the Cloud" taken from St. Matthew 17:G and was delivered by the young minister, Brother Bynum Burton, pastor .of Chappelle Station and a student at Allen college, Columbia, S. C. The message was well., received and the pastor gave considerable encouragement to the young- minister's effort. Upon the opening k of the door of the church, Miss Annie Hampton of Columbia, S. C., accepted church connection and I was placed on the class of Mrs. E, E. Doolcy. Among the vast'ltost of visitors were the folic wing: Mesdames Daisy Williams, Jessi" Whitter., M. Williaipk .ai d Miss Hattie Holmes of this city and Mrs. Bernice LiHiewood, Clinton, S. C. Sincere welcome was extended to all. The "Children's Day" exercises were conducted at 3:30 under the direction of Miss Viola Blackwell. Mrs. Ethel Marsh and Miss Jessie Thompson. Indeed the?chihhen rendered "a very interesting pro1 gram ' and the pastor commended ? the group of teachers who worked so hard to make the day a happy one both for the children and the adult of the church. A litrge hos* witnessed the exercise. At the evening service a large crowd gathered again for the purpose of divine worship and a .e^r tinued spirit of doep~ interest ahd reverence was in evidence. Our pastor's message for the evening was taken from Psalm 3:5. The. (subject used was "Divine Pro-, lection." The discourse was interesting from beginning to end provoking serious thought and outbursts of spiritual enthusiasm. All preparation lias been com pleted for the broadcast by the pas tor and the ? choir through the government's facilities on next Sunday morning irom u.ou umu 110:15. The lesson was enjoyed by all. 'Our Sunday school nt Bethel is still going forward, new members are joining every Sunday. At this time the day being Children's Day, the pastor asked that all chldren who were to receive Baptism to occupy the front seats in the church. This was a thoughtful and soul stirring message which was enjoyed by all.?; ?^ Alter this wonderful message the pastor extended the invitation for joiners. C., and several others we are unable to mention. ?. ______ At 4:30 o'clock we had our Children's Day program from the primary department. . Several parents and friends witnessed a won uerful program conducted by Bro. M. S. Sallie. r?' At 8:00 o'clock our main Children's Day program was composed of children from the junior department. This" was a modern piogram that had not ever been witnessed in Sumter before. The church was'packed from the pulpit to the front door. Bro. M. S. Snltie wna the director of this won derful program. C.?'The 3nd quarterly. conference was held in Spring Field A. M. E. church on the G-7, of June with Rev. S. C[j Quarles, presiding elder of the Abbeville district at his post of duty. The conference was carried out very successfully. Sunday was a high day in Zion, the Sunday school was largely aU_ tended and the lesson' was wonderfully taught by the teachers. Mrs. Quarles, the lovely wife of the P.E. taught the class No. 1, the writer being teacher of that class. Mrs, Quarles knows how to bring the message of the lesson to you. Her pleasing smiles did endear her to the members and friends of the conference, during her first visit with us, although she wa? toot a stranger to us. The P. E. brought us a wonderful message lvom mo A. M. K. Gene.ml Conference in New. York of which every one enjoyed. He also reviewed the lesson to a very large audience. At the morning worship the P. E. took as a text the II Cor. 4th chapter 7-9 verse. The meSsttge was powerful and shouts til praises were heard throughout'Hie audience. j Rev. Martin., the beloved -pastor is a man on the job with the Mccormick circuit; he has everything well in hand and every one is following his leadership. Mrs. Ada Murray died May 29, at the age of 65 years old. Little Miss Dqrothy Searles is visiting in Abbeville', R. G. in the home of Mrs. Zelphia M. Taylor. L" The farmers in this part are rejoicing in the many rains they received the past week. The children's day program was carried out beautifully with roTresments on the ground.
