I 7 . vSaturday, August 10, 1935 r CAMERON NEWS To the Editor of The Palmetto Leader:, Please allow me space in your newsy columns which we all enjoy _ * reading. "All is quiet on the Patomae" in and around our little College is a history. Womanhood honored in the great A. M. E. Church. It's pleasing to note in the Columbia Conference that Miss' Elizabeth Brogdon of Sumter, Northeast, Mrs. Alice llagin, Mrs. _ ?-.Annie Sanders, Mrs.Ruth Link ens 7 That of' the 34 delegates to our General Conference the Laymen ?honored 4 women. We, the women of the State bow with smiles to the Columbia and Northeast Conferences, llow much more happier we would have been if each of our si* (6) conferences had hori -ored the standing uncompromising, loyal and true to the Coe Pillars of our great church; her women, trpe, loyal, etc., did I say | .yes ana more. We are found working, holding up and puffing for-" * ward in every phase .of the church and sometimes leading the various causes and no one dare say we should not receive chuich honors. To the church like at the Crucifixion, last at the Cross and first at the grave. May Jthe forward . - step of these two Conferences l?e an honored move and a cherished trope for the women of the A. M. that yet unborn generation of wo ~ - men will cherish, ho.nor and receive our challenge for womanhood a? now exemplified. *Lef me say to you women elected; -Go on to the General Conference and prove an asset in your being chosen as delegates and that others of your,, sisters tried. Yes fought to the last and yet we died on the field of battle fighting ,for womanhood of our church. I' hope on page 20'.) our discipline Sec.. 3 will be amended and n lieu there of have a judge1 and two?(2) tellers conduct the " election"so that contests from local churches will be past history also page 210, Sec. 3, will be amended 3-??and clarified that pven a fool w ill i v not err. Why not .if we are to i have a lay 'college; let it be f>i spirit and truth?why a figure . V head. These corrections will help the -jchurch^-and encourage-?our f?i?t?fnlnncr tn ttic gnfft churches. The demands of the hour now are true leadership. Kinds of leaders, te'axTers the church needs not to be ashamed leaders--?Not dictators, .. not monarchs, not Hiltlers, not, Mussolinis, leaders who dare an I shun mal administration, Leaders who will uphold the law and regulation as laid down 'in our discipline. Leaders who rather be right than president. Leaders that is God is well pleased with their leadership. Leaders who wiH n?t take men by the nose and carry around for self aggr;uKLigor_ ' ment, leaders with religion ami will not strike below the belt, lenders who will stand for" the ji.'l,; through the earth mighty reel and the mountain shake. We Want Leaders The Lay Electoral College should be a Lay College and not" Ministerial Lay Electoral C ollege. Why should we have a Lay. College of Lay delegates- all picked , and rushed down our lhroafs by! ministers who by wjyy vuX self aggranebigment see that there choice j be elected who must db their biddens, "Oh the times", "Oh the Costoms" may the mills of the Gods that grind slowly but surely will trim in due time..and right he in place of might. In leg* rdift to mission. there ate three greaV essentials we must consider. FirVt, we must have a Missionary Bible, a?Missionary C-'hri.t, a Missionary commission and a Mission ry' challenge. We cannot walk with Qhrist therefore, (tn* the King's highway as i], "were, .unless we havfe Ithat misionary'.vision and zeal. If we have any Bible (at all, it is a Missionary Bible. If we go through this matchless Book and cut out all that it has to say fela -live- to-a missionary,-we*?shouhl cut the hda'rt out of God. If wp have any Christ atajl, yve. have a Missionary Christ. If we as ^Christians have any commission at all the work oi Christ, it is a missionary eoininission. THT" Mission* ry Society .is not a by-produet of the' Christian Church. ,4t is the heart of it. Missionaries are the central and controlling elenlents for the gospel of salvation, and unless this gospel goes, into all parts of the world, it WfflF Hie at home. In spite of the missionary message given us in the Bible', and in spite of the express commend tff Christ toward us, our-churchtoday lacks the funds with which to mrct the missionary challenge I and to carry on our present work, to say nothing, of entering pthei wide open doors. Surely we art not fully meeting the challenge T,et ns >is workers lnwake to oui responsibilities and put forth every effort to. put the-program over.
