The City Barber Shop, M C-tf Jno. R. Mathis, Prop. ' LOCKHART JUNCTION Lockhart Junction, Sept. 23.?There is been :i few more September gales id is very cool again for a few days, here was a very hard rain in this iction last Saturday evening. This i!i do the potatoes and turnips good id will finish up all late crops. I don't know when 1 have seen any ettier time for saving fodder. All le fodder seems to have been saved ithout any rain on it. Well, I hired >me pulled and had to pay 75c a mulled for pulling. 1 never did that .'fore: I never paid over 50c. It does :em that labor is going up, following gh prices of everything, 1 guess, fell, the government is paying good rices for labor, that is, carpenter ork, hut the farmer can't compete ith that. I see the price of cotton has adinced some. 1 will sav don't sell ?o fast and the market will reach ic, I believe, before a great while. I :e no cause for it going lower. It seems there is a good cane crop nd everywhere you hear of they are aking molasses and surely that is te idea, everythibg made at home is le thing and have as little to buy as ossible. This writer attended the picnic last riday at the stand pipe station. This a few miles south of Union, near r. Jack Harris' place. This was a unday school picnic and there was leaking on the subject of Sunday :hools. The principal speaker for the :easion was Rev. Mr. Kelly. Alsoi tr. Carson Davis, who is a superinmdent of two Sunday schools. Miss lsie Smith made her speech to the .dies as she was trying to organize le ladies' club, which is her work. I ill say this was about the best picnic lat I have attended. There was a irge pot of hash and the good lady )lks brought well-filled baskets of /erything good to eat and there w^s lenty left. I was told that a great lany people came there from Union nd other places for recreation and loasu re. Thanks to the pupil who invited me > the Fair school house to the picic sometime ago, but 1 could not get I lere. 1 also was invited to the Mary school house last Saturday, and tanks also. I appreciated the special ivitation to be there but was sorry I luldn't be present. Miss Vero, one " The Times' correspondents, was lere and she will tell you how much le enjoyed the picnic at the pump at ion last Thursday. I forgot to mention in my letter st week that 1 met three young laes from Union county on their way ' Asheville, N. C. .to attend the high hool at that place. The people met last night at the rnlt school house to consider where ey will have a community fair. Mr. irwile and Miss Alsie Smith were esent and outlined the work. Thenis a committee appointed to see the ople. I think this is a good thing r a community to come together and ve such and then a great many of ese exhibits will go to the county ir. This writer is always ready to forward in the work of building i any enterprise in the community d I hope the people will take incest in this. I know one family at has 700 cans of tomatoes and her things. This family can have a etty good exhibit of their own. Miss Florence Haney is at homo om the summer school, where she s been teaching.
