This writer attended the picnic last riday at the stand pipe station. This a few miles south of Union, near r. Jack Harris' place. This was a unday school picnic and there was leaking on the subject of Sunday :hools. The principal speaker for the :easion was Rev. Mr. Kelly. Alsoi tr. Carson Davis, who is a superinmdent of two Sunday schools. Miss lsie Smith made her speech to the .dies as she was trying to organize le ladies' club, which is her work. I ill say this was about the best picnic lat I have attended. There was a irge pot of hash and the good lady )lks brought well-filled baskets of /erything good to eat and there w^s lenty left. I was told that a great lany people came there from Union nd other places for recreation and loasu re. Thanks to the pupil who invited me > the Fair school house to the picic sometime ago, but 1 could not get I lere. 1 also was invited to the Mary school house last Saturday, and tanks also. I appreciated the special ivitation to be there but was sorry I luldn't be present. Miss Vero, one " The Times' correspondents, was lere and she will tell you how much le enjoyed the picnic at the pump at ion last Thursday. I forgot to mention in my letter st week that 1 met three young laes from Union county on their way ' Asheville, N. C. .to attend the high hool at that place.
