KELTON Kelton, March 12.? -Yesterday 102 years airo, was horn the dearest friend on earth to me. my mother. There is no love like a mother's love. Hoys j and trirls. never for tret nor treat your I mother unkindly, honor, love and obey ner aim riwivc me irri'iu oiessmir 1 from on hiirh. promised every one of us. If there is any hov that is to ho pittied it is one that forgets his mother. Oh. the many soldier hoys who fell on the battlefields the last thouirht was of dear mother. If our country I trots into war your mother's prayers] will follow you if to a watery jrrave] or on some trreat battlefield. In 1802 when I left home to enter the Civil war I could not hear the thought of tellinir my mother jrood-bye, although 1 did not realize a true mother's love as I did afterwards. I thought when I hecran writinir these lines that I wouldn't say anything about wars, hut how soon I drifted to the trreat wars. I love to see the young girls and boys enjoying themselves courting, hecause when 1 was young I loved to be with the trirls and wanted to court before I knew how. T remember when I was a boy about 12 or 1-1 years old ? / thorn io tiA 1 A?* 1 A xtoo?? ^1/1 l?At?o now, they are men)?one of my father's nearest neighbors had some relatives visit them from North Carolina. In honor of their guest they had an entertainment and I, a little boy about 14 years old, was present. After the young folks enoying themselves in a social way in plays, etc., the young men and young ladies began to get off two by two, I thought that was courting. 1 thought I must court, too. There was a pretty, sweet little hlackeved. black-headed girl about 12 or 1 *i years old present, so I made it convenient to get by her and 1 did not know how to court. I couldn't think of a word to say. the more 1 thought the less I could think of to begin with. Hoys, did you ever get along\here. At last I decided that I must say something. I leaned over toward her and whispered in her ear, "Do you love me?" She kindly dropped her head but made no answer as she did not get up and leave me I thought I had made a point. I quickly repeated the question and then again she still nevet spoke, but nodded her head. Yes, that was enough. That sweet little girl lived until years after the Civil wai and married and made her husband a good wife. I couldn't say that mucl for her husband. It looks very much like this morning that we are going to have more falling weather soon. Mrs. G. T. G. is on the sick list hut is better today. There is a good deal of colds and lagrippe on the Ridge. No serious sickness that I hear of. Rev. J. D. Croft tilled his pulpit at Mt. Joy last night. I hope Mrs. G. T. G. will he quiet awhile now, as I have been gardening today, but T guess there is something else she will want me to do. She if like Bill Arp's wife use to be. 11-: said she was always wanting something done. Well, 1 guess if we would mind our wives more we would get along much better than we do. I may have something to say in the future about equal suffrage. G. T. G. GIRLS! DRAW A MOIST CLOTH THROUGH HAIR, DOUBLE ITS BEAUTY Try This!
