Fu 11 C>]f* I LOCKHART JUNCTION Lockhart Junction, Feb. 2.'}.?I an glad to say wo have had another fair week and the farmers are linishing sowing their grain. I am in hopes the ground hog has been fooled this time. We sure have had pretty weather since he prophesied bad weather, yet some folks say that it will snow, well, we will see what we will see. The time for garden planting lias come and sonv are planting today. Irish potatoes are being put in the ground?some are talking of bedding sweet potatoes. 1 have not heard a farmer talk of guano or planting cotton. Now wouldn't it be grand if no one bought, any guano? I believe most of the farmers are going to change their way of planting now. Let us farmers see how little we can use. if any. That is the way I am going to do. If I use any at all, it will be very little?on my grain crops. We have many questions before us now. The low price of cotton and the war and rumors of war?this is the greatest and we do not know i what the outcome will be. If the farmer goes and plants another large crop of cotton and then makes a large yield what will be the result. The whole world will be bankrupt. Some say that nobody will be hurt but the farmer, but 1 say when the farmer is hurt, every body is hurt; the merchant is looking to the farmer, also the banker. He wants u lend money and he is glad to have you deposit. The way we all get along i.-. by helping each giJvt. Some merchants are very nearly bankrupt 1,1'cnnsi' hi< mnnev in I he r. un! rv The hanks are in the same lix, they have loaned out money and probably hate to push th< ir security man The farmer is the backhom of the world and the cotton seems to be the kinjr, but if we all will make a surnlu; it will be kinjr cotton -ure enou?'h, for we will t a jrood price, a living price. I Jut you see the price was so low this time the money did not reach to those who were obligated or had d< bts and could not pay them at tin- time is in i' bad. Kveryone is feelintf the burden, for i heard a merchant say the other day, he himself was not able to tret some thinjrs he oiurht to have this time, for his money was in the coun try and he could not get it. Now ' we see it is the other follow owing | the other fellow and so it Roes, i sometimes think there is too much thought of graft and things of the world and too little thought of the God who is the giver of all good gifts, is why misfortune came along. I have been asked to say some thing about the good roads question but this has been already written about, and I see that our correspondent has given his views and they seem to be all against the bonds. I have told you before in my IV/ 11 Fore L Work D F ? 5 Nig ?J o bwea?tagg iiiiimi ???? | other letters how 1 stood. I am in I favor of good roads if we can have | thou, hut 1 fear if this is voted on | us that the money will he spent that j is appropriated and then we will not have good roads. I will tell you I what 1 found out when I was in < Cherokee county last week. The farmers were dragging the roads with a steel drag and each one was ] taking in certain portions for his ] part and they were doing this free s of chartre and thev were mnkirwr jrood roads too. That is the kind of spirit I like to see anions the people ?more work and less pay, but >renerally when it comes to the county , it is less work and more pay. Miss Bernice Garner of Cherokee and Mrs. Lula Adams of Lockhar*. j spent last week at the home of Mr. , and Mrs. It. L. White. Mr. E. B. Timmons and family of t Monarch have moved to this section t and will work a farm. , Mrs. Mary Gault of Union, spent 1 last week with her son, Mr. B. F. Gault.
