AN ORDINANCE i i ( Granting Special License by the City j of Union, S. C., for the Fiscal ( Year Beginning May 1, 1914. I Be it Or 'ained by the Mayor and ] Aldermen of the City of Union, S. C., i in Council assembled and by author? ' ty of same: , Section 1. That the following Spec- ] ial License Ordinance is hereby adopted and Ordained by the City Council on the 13th day of March, 1914, for the Fiscal Year, beginning , M ? 1<t. 1914. That every person, firm or corporation engaged in or engaging in any trade, business or profession herein after mentioned within the limits of the City of Union, S. C., shall upon engaging in said trade, business or profession on or before May 1st, 1914, first obtain a license from the Clerk and Treasurer thereof, upon the order of the Mayor, and all license.* hereinafter mentioned, shall be nontransferable, except by written per mission 01 ine iviayor enaorsea on s:j'd license, and ner annum, if noi otherwise specifically provided, and all said license, and per annum, and all annual licenses shall expire on the 1st day of May, 1915. Any license may be revoked at any time by the Mayor or the City Council. Sec. 2. Every itinerant, trader or (excent licensed auctioneer offering for sale or attempting to sell by sample within the City at public outcry or otherwise, any goods ware, fancy articles, spectacles, jewel v. pictures, notions or other articles of like character or kind shall pay :n advance a license tax of noi less than Five Dollars ($5.00) per da\. Twenty-five Dollars ($25,001 per week, or Two Hundred Doilars ($200.00) per year, and no plea of advertising or selling for any person, firm or corporation of the Citv of Union. shall relieve the said itinerant, trader of person from the payment of said license. Sec. 3. Every itinerant physician or vendor, seller of medicine, patent or of his own make, or practicing as an itinerant his profession or calling shall nay a license tax of not less than Ten Dollars ($10.00) per day or Fifty Dollars ($50.00) per week, and no plea of advertising or selling for any person, firm or corporation of + fitv f\f TTninn chtill rollovp snirl physician, vendor or seller from the pavment of said license. Sec. 4. Each dray, carriage, bugg> automobile or other power vehicle, and each hack for public hire, conveyance or transportation, shall havv a number thereon and the driver of such vehicle shall keep that numbet exposed on such hack, dray, carriage, buggy, automobile or other power vehicle, and every driver thereof shau wear a duplicate number in a conspicuous place. The Clerk and Treasurer shall issue for each such dray, carriage, buggy, automobile or other power vehicle and hack and driver, such numbers at the issuance of license and place the number on the said license. Sec. . 5. The maximum fee to be -.' charged for each passenger within the corporate limits of the City of Union by such hacks, buggies, carriages or automobiles or other power vehicles, shall not exceed Twenty-five Cents (25c) from any point withi the corporate limits of said City to said passenger's destination; nrovidnn f aa cVioll Ko a vnrorl ffir nnv passenper under five (5) years of ape. Each dray or hack or carriage or < buggy or automobile or other power | vehicle licensee as aforesaid, who ] shall work or allow to he workeo,j or use or allow to be used .any horse, or mule, harness, dray, carriage, bug-! ] gy or other vehicle or vehicles after the same has been declared unfit hv j the Mayor or Chief of Police, shall < upon conviction be fined in a sum not exceeding Ten Dollars (SI 0.00) or be imprisoned with or without hard labor not exceeding twenty (20) days, ' for each offense. Sec. 7. The above sections in reference to inspection and charges shall ' apply to the owners or managers ofj Livery, Feed and Sales Stables, who; shall run drays, hacks, carriages, bug-, gies, automobiles or other power vc-' hides for the use of the public for' hire, under the provisions of this Or-; dinance. Sec. X. Any driver or owner of any ' such hack or carriage or buggy or automobile or other power vehicle for ' hire as aforesaid, including Livery Feed and Sales Stables, who shall run any such hacks, carriages, buggies, automobiles or other power ve- ' hides, who shall leave his, her or j their back, or carriage or buggy or, automobile or other power vehicle before mentioned, for a distance greater than ten ( 10) feet in solicita- ] tion of any passenger or otherwise a;, f iny depot within the City of Union, >r who shall leave his, her or their lack, buggy, carriage, automobile or ither Dower vehicle standing unattended within one block of any de- F pot or upon Main street from the :ourt house to the Baotist church F shall pay a fine of Five Dollars ($5.00) or be imprisoned for a period F of ten (10) days with or without hard labor, in the discretion of the F Mayor. Such person shall first make and file an affidavit with the Clerk and Treasurer of the City Coun- ^ cil, setting forth the name and postoffice address of the person proposing to sell. The production is made in six parts, containing in all 0,500 feet, and runs a little over an hour and a half. "For Napoleon and France" will be shown at the Edisonia one day only, Friday, April 3d.
