It is perhaps unnecessary to urge upon our people the necessity of spending their money at home, yet it is a good thing to insist upon. A very good way to raise dairy calves is to feed them whole milk from two to four weeks, depending upon the physical condition of the calf. After this gradually change from whole milk to skimmilk so that at the end of the third or fifth week the calf is receiving only skimmilk. When the calf is from three to four weeks old. 11 mivtnre of limn oats equal parts by weight of bran, oats and corn may be put before it, so it may eat at any time. Good hay, preferably clover or alfalfa, should be placed before it at a very early age. When the calf is from ten to twelve weeks old it may be necessary to limit the amount of grain that it will eat and force it to take a greater portion of its nourishment from skimmilk and hay. If silage or roots are at the dis posal of the feeder, the calf when it is twelve to fourteen weeks of age, may be given an allowance of either. Even earlier than this the calf will eat some silage or roots if given an opportunity. Calves should be forced to eat a large amount of roughage. We believe this has a tendency to develop the animal's digestive organs, for it forces the calf to do more work than when milk or meal is fed in liberal quantities.
