was last week. No doubt he has

Rock in days gone by and knows
whereof he speaks. But even if the
rooster was feather legged, Woodrow
Wilson is not.

Very few people realize the opportuity
which has come in the matter of
seeing a dozen or more big battleships
of Uncle Sam. They will be in
Charleston from Monday until Satur
day of next week. Railroad rates ark
cheap. These are many and varied

TRADE AT HOME.
It is perhaps unnecessary to urge
upon our people the necessity of
spending their money at home, yet it
is a good thing to insist upon. The
money spent at home stays at home
to be spent over and over again. It
just keeps on helping as long as it cirw
culates. It pays debts, settles ac?
counts and helps all round. When it
goes out of your community it helps
somewhere else.
Then, too, one often supposes that
he can get better goods away from
home than at home, and for less
money. This is also a serious mistake,
frequently. The truth is, one
often pays more and gets inferior
goods by going away from home.
Keep your money at home. Trade
with your home merchant. Let your
cash pay debts at home. It will help
you and it will help your community.

Raising Dairy Calves.
(Hoard's Dairyman.)
A very good way to raise dairy
calves is to feed them whole milk
from two to four weeks, depending
upon the physical condition of the calf.
After this gradually change from
whole milk to skimmilk so that at
the end of the third or fifth week
the calf is receiving only skimmilk.
When the calf is from three to four
weeks old. 11 mivtnre of limn oats
equal parts by weight of bran, oats
and corn may be put before it, so it
may eat at any time. Good hay, preferably
clover or alfalfa, should be
placed before it at a very early age.
When the calf is from ten to twelve
weeks old it may be necessary to limit
the amount of grain that it will eat
and force it to take a greater portion
of its nourishment from skimmilk and
hay. If silage or roots are at the dis
posal of the feeder, the calf when it
is twelve to fourteen weeks of age,
may be given an allowance of either.
Even earlier than this the calf will
eat some silage or roots if given an
opportunity.
Calves should be forced to eat a
large amount of roughage. We believe
this has a tendency to develop
the animal's digestive organs, for it
forces the calf to do more work than
when milk or meal is fed in liberal
quantities.
