G. Clifford or Capt. F. M. Farr. Killed Father-in-Law. A cold blooded murder was committed in Cross Anchor last Friday. John "Sheldon, a negro 23 years of age, had a row with his wife and ?, threatened to kill her. The woman ? left the house and went to that of ' her father's, telling no one at all ? al>oiit the threat and conduct of her cr i husband. Sheldon soon followed % . her to her father's house and asked her twice if she intended leaving > him for good. She declared that & ? such was her intention. ? I Sheldon immediately pulled out ? r a pistol and fired at his wife. She ? i dodged and the bullet entered the 3 neck of a negro boy sitting in the c a room. The woman's father got up and moved towards the door. As ? he did so, Sheldon shot him in the ? arm and through the right side. S The old negro fell dead. Sartor ^ ' Union county has lost one of her S best and most useful citizens in the ^ death of Mr. James (.'. Mr. Sartor had been a confined to the hospital for several ? n months undergoing treatment for a y complication of diseases. After an d operation which took place al>out a I- month ago, lie steadily weakened e and never recovered his strength, k The funeral services were conducted ic here in the city and the body of the y deceased was laid to rest in the le cliurchyavd of Grace Methodist >f church. ?r Mr. Sartor was a very prominent (1 citizen and an extensive farmer in sf his portion of the county. He was a son of Mr. Henry Sartor and was id born in 1817. In 1870 he was r- married to Miss Mary Ilognn and le she survives him with the following 10 children: Mr. W. I). Sartor and s- Mr. II. W. Sartor and Mrs. D. Fant ry Gilliam of Union and Misses Mary ic and Kate Sartor. Several brothers c. and sisters also survive him: Mrs. a H. K. Smith of Union, Mr. W. II. la Sartor of this city, Mr. Daniel Sarid tor of Mississippi, Mrs. F. E. Davis in and Mrs. T. B. Bates of Santuc. to At the early age of sixteen Mr. Sartor entered the Confederate army ad and was a member of the famous n- Macbeth Light Artillery under the itc command of Capt. Jeter.
