Anneal to Patriotism. ^

Patriotism is tho unselfish love of ^
country, home and fireside protec- (L
lion from unjust invasion and op- ^
prcssion, a love of the sacred mem- J
ory of those who suffered and died f*
for the cause we loved. The old ft
veterans of tho Confederate army
are passing away. Soon there will ^
he none to tell the tale. We want
to perpetuate and honor their mem- J
ory by erecting a monument, then V*
every one who has a spark of pa- $
triotism in whom that love is not (fi
dead contribute a little to the fund gl
being raised for the monument. S
Do it freely, voluntarily and you
will feel better. Don't wait to be W
asked for it. As you sell your cot- ft
ton or get in an extra dollar give it
to this cause. Don't leave the burden
upon the women who are interesting
themselves so zealously in
this matter to doit all. Help, each
person help if blit a little, for every
little helps. Send or give to Mrs.

Killed Father-in-Law.
A cold blooded murder was committed
in Cross Anchor last Friday.
John "Sheldon, a negro 23 years of
age, had a row with his wife and ?,
threatened to kill her. The woman
? left the house and went to that of
' her father's, telling no one at all ?
al>oiit the threat and conduct of her cr
i husband. Sheldon soon followed %
. her to her father's house and asked
her twice if she intended leaving
> him for good. She declared that &
? such was her intention. ?
I Sheldon immediately pulled out ?
r a pistol and fired at his wife. She ?
i dodged and the bullet entered the
3 neck of a negro boy sitting in the c
a room. The woman's father got up
and moved towards the door. As ?
he did so, Sheldon shot him in the ?
arm and through the right side. S
The old negro fell dead. He was ^
i TO years of age, faithful and trust- ?
i worthy. r
