Jano CorrcspoiMlonc# to (lalTncy Ltdger.) riie new pistol law is occupying innch lc? in tlie papers, ami it's right that it >uld, so that their readers can know at it is, nnd every true man will help enforce it. Ever siuce the war the i against concealed weapons has been .hing but a farce, especially in its encement. The last, legislature is the v oue that has ever haudled it so as to ke its enforcement a possibility. The rstiou is, will it be done now? A gun enty inches long and weighing three inds cannot be conveniently carried nit the person. The only oversight Lhe law makers was in allowing the a of cartridges to go on so that the ' lses" now on hand can he supplied, f a man's good conduct doesn't sufently guarantee him protection he is a bad fix. There is only one ai guilt we have ever found in carrying a tol and that is it is a protection against hway robbers, outside of that it is an olute nuisance and a curse to any one 0 carries it. It advertises its owner \ coward, for no truly brave man will ry oDe. Whiskey, cards and pistols the devil's most efiicient agents in ning youug men, .both white and ared. We are satisfied that there are /er white kmen now carrying pistols litually than there has been in many ,rs, if ever before. Yet there are 1 some and there will continue to be ne until they find that the law can I will be carried out if men will only true to themselves and their country, t generally good jurors kuow hing, peace officers feel little or inclination to act, only when some ) makek complaiut, and good citizens called) don't want to incur the dispute of their neighbors by taking d of such oilicers. We feel satisfied t we have peace oilicers in this county i> win no*. let a single opportunity s without prosecuting it, and we ther believe that they will take .such , interest in their county's welfare as nake ingieies that will lead to an itnvement of the law. We hope so. iso nkei> of pistols. La editorial in The Times of lecent e in regard to execution of law as iow stands relative to the carrying of ,ols has the right ring about it. blic opinion has a great deal to do li the execution of the laws aud a ow would soon get tired and ashamed ug around a weapon of the required tensions and weight, and consequently irould become unpopular. The carryof pistols is all a habit and a very i one which should meet the uondemion of all good people. I have lived il I am nearly flfty-seven years o'd I I have never carried one in times of ce. 1 have seen pistols carried around t were not very dangerous as far as ir shooting qualities were concerned, infuch so that if a fellow wo lid shoot With oue aud if I ever should liud it , I would "wollop" him sure. Homo. e pistol an evidence ok cowardice. Sfu. Editor:?I take off my hat and ink you for the light you have made the new pistol law. I heartily ense your position from A. to Z. If the jple of this country will only do their :y this pernicious evil will soon ba mped out and buried so completely t it will never know of a resurrection, ahead young man and shell the woods M every "piatol toter" will be ashamed tie found with a pistol or to acknowl:e lie owns or ever has owned one. liakey cards aud pistols are three of devil's most effective agents. They triplets and generally go together, of them may be turned down by the obined efforts of people who wish ir country to be rid of such nuisances, e presence of a pistol in the pocket is "ad." that its possessor is a onward. Jas. L. Strain. E DEADLY TISTOL HAS MADE MANY t nOME DESOLATE, MANY A MAN IAS BEEN SENT ALL UNPREPARED ro MEET HIS OOD, WHILE WIDOWS tND ORPHANS ARE LEFT TO MOURN. JOWN WITH TIIEDAEDLY WKATONS. VIr. Editor:?The time for which ny of us have longed for. some have d none or but little attention to and i that will not take any effect on a at many, is at hand. That is the ie in which it shall bo unlawful to ry the small, deadly, ever-ready tol. There has been since the last o decades many a home made desolate, iny a child made fatherless, many a ir shed by mothers, many a stout and mat man hurled into eterbity, not at ) will of God but by the constant use the ever-ready pistol. Many a man 10 is now niuiuenug in me uwy or me irual ages whom God might have ired for some good purpose wl\p might ve readied a height worthy of mention 11 it not have been for this ever ready apon. Hurrah for Tiib Times for its bold d brave dash and its victory over such gh enterprise. This law will not take ect on all for there was many who I not have anything for their weapons do, yet we all will bo benefitted by it. ke everything else of a long standing 9 stopage will not be all at once but II gradually sink into oblivion.
