C., where he held an -important |>osition in a telegraph oflice at that place. A promising young iife with a blight future before it has been suddenly cut off, in the veiy bloom of youthful manhood. Of course Democratic gatherings are not of unusual occurence iu these days, nor u it straDge that they should gather together to discuss matters in general and presidential possibilities in particular, but it was said that the recent Democratic t)arnival was the biggest thing of the hind that ever occurred in the Lone Star State. De that as it may, that in connection with the State Fair was a great advertisement for Texas. And the gathering as a success was more complete than the Anti-Trust conference recently held at St. Louis, Mo., which was called by our governor, J. D. Sayer. (There is a senatorial contest now inythis State between lion. Horace Chilton, a present incumbent, and J. W. Bailey, member of Congros9 and lormer leader of the Democratic forces ia the lower house of the National legislature, and who repreresents us of the 5ib District. There is a firm in B jnham, Messrs. D. Stoyer & Company, who, a few days since consumated a contract with the English government to buy 1,500 mules to be used in the prospective war with the Boers in the transvaal country, South Africa. They have commenced to buy these mules and have on hand here now from two to three hundred* I had the misfortune just three weeks ago to receive a wound in iny left shoulder, which m vy afil ct me the remainder of my life, but I am thankful it is no worse.
