TKLKl'IIONi: AHltOAI). .'on.July 0.?There have been good rains in this neighborhood for the last few day.?, and crops arc in fine condition, and tnc prospect is now very Mattering far a good crop of corn and cotton. 1 attended the reunion of the United Confederate Veterans in llichniond last week ami also went up to Washington, and took in that great city, the capital of the nation. The reunion was certainly one 'of the jii.uuicsr. gauicnngs ot the old vet crans that has ever been held or that \v:ll ever ho held because Hicinond will always draw a larger crowd of old veterans than any other citv in the South. It is so much like going O ~ home to so many of tliem that they naturally like to go and then the battle fields around that arc soaecessible is another attraction so all those tilings make llichmond the place for such an occasion. The people of liielnnond certainly done well in en tertaining so large a crowd. Four thousand veterans slept in the audh torium at the fair grounds, besides many other places of lodging in the city. It took three hundred and seventy hams, two thousand loaves of bread and five hundred gallons of coffee each meal at the auditorium and nearly as many veterans were fed and lodged at other places in the city and this continued for three days. The ovation given (leneral Hampton was the grandest I over witnessed in all my life. If the South Caro* Una Legislature can go back on Hampton, the confederate veterans have not and never will. They would ' ?? elect Hampton to any position if it was le t to them. Washington was vorv wuiet. Congress not in session # o """ """ ,v"* aim1 the president ami cabinet hail gone to the summer resorts and yet then is much to be seen in washing* ton at any season of die year.
