S| Work to Be Continued in Sum-: I ter County in Interest of Soldiers and Sailors Me morial Building !_ I In Sum ter County a little more I f than one-half of the quota allotted ! t to this County for tin- Memorials I Building; for the sailors and soldiers; [ >f che Greai War has been raised.! I For several weeks, on account of i?i - i I merous interruptions, this work has] I no; been pressed in Sum ter Coun- : I ly. At a meeting of tin- Commit j tee. held the other evening, however, j .1 was decided to take up this Cam-' : paign again and press i: to a suc cessful conclusion. I The State Commission has set j i/forth very definitely and clearly the. faet iba: iho nature of the memorial i I is no longer to "bei debated; that it; has been definitely determined that it ?' shall be strictly memorial, and non- j utilitarian in character. exc?*pi that j the auditorium will be used by the! veterans of this war and other wars, i in declaring the ideals of our court- j try. j It has been definitely decided that I the State will appropriate One Hun-1 drcd Thousand Dollars and the Coun- j ties will contribute Pour Hundred; Thousand Dollars. So much for the; State at large. I As far as Sum ter County is con cerned, jts quota is Twelve Thousand Dollars, it is earnestly desired that ! this amount should be subscribed . without delay, in order that Sumteri [County may clearly show the rest of' the world that it lias no desire to for- ; I get her many heroes, who offered ! their lives for the defense, of the,! ; world's fredom. Sumte!- County takes a melancholy j pride in the fact that it has on its , ; dag of distinguished service, more ; than thirty gold stars. : We certainly wish to show ouv ap preciation of the sacrifices thai these' j young men made in our behalf. We j.certainly do not wish any one to: have any reason to behove that we [have so soon forgotten v.ha! these men did for us. Is it not true, that when we un , furled, about one year ago, our flag , of honor, with its glistening stars of gold, we could have raised many ? limes our quota within a very few ! few ^minutes? Can it be that we are ? forgetting. That we have already forgotten ? Within the next few days we are going to try to have this whole County covered. When a gentleman ! approaches you. will you not be ready to respond at once? Will yon not be one of tho>< who will show, by his cheerful and ready response, that he will never forget what was done for him. Two of the largest subscriptions that have been made were made by those whose hearts will fo'rever . bleed. We can understand the feel ing that prompted a gift of this sort. tmmamcmmmmmmmmwmMmwmmmvmmwmmmmMmmmat but is it fair that we should be con jpent .to see those who have given so much give stNJ raru-e, while we stand indrfferently by? Ft would be a source of genuine gratification to every citizen in Sum t.er County to know that his County has again done its fulr duty.. Let's get together for the next ten days and do it. Most cordially submitted, s. H. EDMUXDS, Chairman. W. Y. L. Marshall and A. S. Harby, both crashed into trees in an effort to avoid a collision. Mr. Marshall, who was in a Ford, was considerably shaken up and cut across the face by the breaking of the windshield. The car was also damaged to a great ex tent. Mr. Darby was driving a Velie which was also considerably damaged, one wheel being completely ruined. The driver of the ear was not hurt so badly as was Mr. Marshall. 1$ seems as if the accident was unavoidable. The wet and slippery streets-seem to have played an important part.
