MM Tt mm TAFT. HA? HTATKMENT IS IlKnPONSE TO ADDItKss or ACCEPT? ANCE READY. Got Printed Copy In Advance?Has Ahm IteeoHed Hb Own ttpercli In Hb? Mind?Mark Not Considered s*nk%(m* lory aa Manager. Lincoln. Neb., July ?S.?Soon after his return to Falrvew today from his conference at Chicago on Saturday laat with the subcommittee. Wl'llam J Bryan said that tomorrow after? noon he would have a statement to give out on the speech of acceptance of hla rival for the presidency Wil? liam H. Taft. Mr. Bryan talked as If he were ready today to five out the statement, but that aa a matter of form he would watt the publication of Judge Taft's speech before making public comment on It In a winy speech last night at the roistering weekly exercises of the Ak ftar-Bea at Omaha Mr. Bryan said that he then felt like replying to cer? tain feature* of the Taft speech ac eopasjos. a copy of which be had carefully r*<ed. but he did not knew bat that at the last moment It would be revised by an authority "higher up." and. therefore should he then oomment upon It he might speak of something that had no official ex It la understood that Mr. Bryan has km psjsasestoa of a copy of Judge Tail s speech for .several days. Over two weeks ago he expressed a desire to obtela a copy at as early a date be? fore Its delivery as practicable, and It hr presumed that hla wish waa gretMss. As to his own speech of acceptance, to be delivered here August IS. Mr. pJtVyen asserted this afternoon that he bad pretty thoroughly revolved it in his mind and th-t the work of com? pleting It was a mere matter of detail which would not involve much labor. It Is stated that ene of his main ef? forts will be to make It much snorter jK^ian the Taft speech In order to guarantee the widest possible pub I Itelty. Friends who have discussed the subject with Mr. Bryan say they judge his speech of acceptance will not be much over halt the length of Judge TaJfs, although It will deal g. frankly with every topic taken up by ftho Republican candidate and also will Include discussions of themes not touched upon by bis opponent Ths Bryan speech, tt Is thought will bo ready for delivery to newspapers by the first of next week. U In spits of ths reports apparently 1 inspired by Norman B. Mack, chair? man af the Democratic national com? mittee, that Mr. Bryan woo! I proba? bly visit Chicago again within ths fortnight to confer with ths offi of the committee on organtxa l^tJsa af the campaign forces, Mr. Bryan today that he had not thought of Banking ths trip, tt Is known to bo his wish to remain close to home from now until his running mats. John W. Kern, hi officially notified at Indianapolis of his nomination. Mr. Bryan will participate to that func r tloo. the enact date of which will not ho determined until the time of the noUaoattoa of the Republican vice presidential nemlnee has been defi? nitely announced Before he went to Chicago last I week tt had been Mr. Bryan's inten? tion to make a flying trip to New York, personally to survey the field there with the view to deciding upon a plan of campaign for the capture of that State. Since hi* return from Chicago, however, he has tentatively changed his original purpose and now * may not visit New York until he has attended the Kern notification meet? ing. But there can be no doubt of Mr. Bryan's strong desire to plunge into the fight for the electoral vote of New I \.?rk State with ?1 of his old-time vigor and fire. He keeps himself In formed of developments In that State, and In spite of hi* Inability to obtain the service* of a man trained In In duMrtal business to manage his cam * patgn. he Is convinced that he Is stronger In New York than he ever S was before, and that by devoting a large share of attention to the fight there he will carry the State. * Some of his close friends here openly express disappointment over Mr. Bryan's inability to obtain as k campaign manager the type of busl nese men he Is known to have wanted and which Is represented by William 1* Douglas, of Massachusetts*. While they are not disposed to dlnparage Mr. Mack, they say his experience as m newspaper man has not trained his energies to co-ordinate the forces that play over so broad a field of activity * as those which make presidents. For this reason they are hoping thst. despite Mr. Bryan's well known f .rmer objections to the e'ectlon of David It Francis, of Missouri, as chairman of the national committee, i |fr Mack will call to his aid the Mb> ' sourlsn and all other old-lino Demo? crats like him who may be willing ? give assistance In the fight. Based upon this hope, the belief Is strong here that chsirmsn Mack will , . ... inr .'ir ? ? HflcCtlOU vt UU t executive committee made up from the most part of material drawn from surces outside fa the national com? mittee, and that Into the hand* of this committee ?rill be placed the real management of the campaign. In this connection the name of Richard Olney, of Massachusetts, Is being used freely ^s that of one who may be In? vited to become a member of the ex? ecutive committee. It Is also stated here that had Mr. Bryan been disposed to act dlctatorl ally at the Chicago conference, he would have openly discouraged the re-election of Urey Woodson, of Kentucky, a* secretary of the na? tional committee. In view of this cir? cumstance It Is regarded as probable that the work of the secretary of the committee which may be eventually charged with the real responsibility for the direction of the campaign, will be done by some person other than Mr. Woodson. Ml VAX 8AVS TAFT IS DISSATIS? FIED. Declares Roosevelt 4 Man is Not Pleased With the Party's Plat? form. - Fairview. Lincoln, Neb.. July tt.? Charging that Willi im H. Tift "is not satisfied with the work of the Chicago convention, which nominat? ed him as the Republican candidate for the presidency," and "that he is deeply Impressed with the work of the Democrstic convention," Wil* Ham J. Bryan today issued a state? ment in which he expresses the opin? ion that Mr. Taft "fears the uprising whleh Republican abuses hauve caus? ed and yet hesitates to adopt, his real and substantial refcrms." > The statement was called forth be? cause of the allegation made by Taft in his speech of acceptance at Cin? cinnati yesterday that Mr. Bryan was a destroyer of business. In regard to the speech Mr. Bryan said: "I read and shall discuss it as . I deal with the various subjects upon which It treats. For Instance. In a speech at Topeka, between now and the 1st of September. I shall discuss the guaranty of banks and contrast Mr. Taft's position with the Demo? cratic position. In Chicago I sha'l discuss his attitude on the labor question. In other speeches I shall discuss his attitude on the tariff ques? tion, the trust question and other questions on which he hag expressed himself. "The most noticeable feature of his speech is his sttempt to amend the Republican platform by engrafting in In some of the planks of the Demo? cratic platform. He is evidently not satisfied with the work of his conven? tion and is deeply Impressed by the work of the Democratic convention. He Is uncharitable, however, in not giving the Democratic party credit for having pointed out the reforms which his convention repudiated, but which he. in a half-hearted way. en? dorses. The speech shows that he fears the uprising which Republican abuses have caused and yet hesitates to adopt his real substantial re? forms." Confirmation was given by Mr. Bry? an today to the story printed In the afternoon that it was not his inten? tion to make any extended campaign tour, but only to deliver a few pre? pared speeches at central points be? fore the 1st of October, and that dur? ing that month he expects to remain at home and assist In the educational work of the campaign through) the discussion of pub'le questions In the form of signed articles. Interviews and letters. "The outline of my plan of cam? paign as printed today," said Mr. Bryan, "is substantially correct, but I am not yet prepared to announce the number of speeches or the places. Besides speaking In Topeka in Au? gust and at Chicago on Labor day. I shall attend the Democratic conven? tion at Peorla September 9. the noti? fication of Mr. Kern nt Indianapolis on a date not yet fixed and a farmers' congress at Madison, Wls., about Sep? tember 26." Although the heat was Intense to? day, a large number of visitors rode ??ut to Falrvlew and paid their re* Spent! to the Democratic U aders. One <?f these was J. T. Flynn of Rellalre, O., who was a delegate to the Denver convention. Mr. Flynn discussed pol? itics with Mr. Bryan for some time and expressed the belief that Ohio wou!d bo f ?und in the Democratic column In November. The actual writing of his speech of acceptance has not yet been begun by Mr. Bryan, but he said today that hi* Ideas were about formulated and he would enter upon the work of preparation In a day or two. The fact that an additional stenographer has appeared on the scene Is an In? dication that all Is In readiness for thl* Important work. The prediction that there will be sn unusually large cotton crop and lower prices looks like 1 conspiracy against Senatorial Candidate. Smith. The matter should be Investigated be fors It Is carried too far. Send us your Job work. Unclaimed aoid Refused Freight.
