STATEBUK G COMMENCEMENT. *Fbe Closing Exercises o?* the General Sumter Memorial Academy Were Largely Attended. Stateburg. S. C., June 3.-The com? mencement exercises of the General Si:mter Memorial Academy were held on Friday evening at the hall of the I school building at Stateburg, and de? spite the most unfavorable weather conditions a large number of visitors were prese:::. The , programme was composed chieriy of musical selections, some of which were chosen from tj^e world's most famous operas and a more diffi? cult programme would hardly have been undertaken by the most ad? vanced students of some of our great musical institutions; yet the selections were n:ost beautifully rendered. The. large crowd that attended, many of whom drove eight or ten miles through a downpour of rain, regret? ted none of the hazards they had faced" and felt that they had heel doubly repaid for their efforts to at? tend the exercises. Mr. McSween was in Clinton at * lending the commencement exercises j of the Presbyterian College, of which he is a trustee. He was ad? vised of the condition of his daughter by wire and came on the special which stopped in front of his resi? dence only long enough to take aboard the sick girl and her mother.
