Largely Attended.

mencement exercises of the General
Si:mter Memorial Academy were held
on Friday evening at the hall of the
I school building at Stateburg, and de?
spite the most unfavorable weather
conditions a large number of visitors
were prese:::.
The , programme was composed
chieriy of musical selections, some of
which were chosen from tj^e world's
most famous operas and a more diffi?
cult programme would hardly have
been undertaken by the most ad?
vanced students of some of our great
musical institutions; yet the selections
were n:ost beautifully rendered. The.
large crowd that attended, many of
whom drove eight or ten miles
through a downpour of rain, regret?
ted none of the hazards they had
faced" and felt that they had heel
doubly repaid for their efforts to at?
tend the exercises.

Dalzell June 6.-A negro known
as Billy Williams, in the employ of
C. J. Jackson & Co. of Claremont,
was almos: instantly killed near here
Tuesday evening. He was re tinning
from Sum*.ir with a load of lumber

down a steep hill and ran away,
throwing him out. The wagon ran
over him, breaking some of his ribs
and injuring him internally, from
which he rlied almost instantly.
