We hope the paper may long live to contribute its share towards the amuse? ment, happiness and improvement of its reders. Gov. Chamberlain on the South Carolina Railway. NEW York, Oct. 9.-Ex-Governor Daniel H. Chamberlain, iu an interview with a Press News reporter in the forc? er's law office, expressed himself freely and candidly this afternoon iu regard to the present condition and future pros? pects of the Sou'h Carolina railway. The trouble with that road is the old story; defaulting of interest on irs hoods, inability to meet obligations, followed by the inevitable consrqneo.ee of an attempt to relieve the difficulty by re-organization, the failure iu which results in legal proceedings and the appointment of a receiver. Ex Gover? nor Chamberlain is the receiver, and ."presents the situation in his own langu? age as follows : *4The South Carolina raliway made a default ia the payment of inn-rest on its first mortgage bonds last April, and in Coober of the present year; also on the interest of the secoud mo-tgage ia. January and July of the present year. Th's-made it plain to the holdets o?ts securities that the present admin? istration of the road w<?uld not bi able to-manage its affairs with financial success, and f >r the past six months the bondholders have been considering the necessity of bringing suit to fore? close either the first or second mort gage?, which would involve the ap - poiDtment of a receiver. "Duriug the past summer a plan was alto contemplated with a view to re organizing the road so as to avoid thc necessity of a foreclosure, bu* after careful consideration, it was found that j this could not be carried io to effect j without sacrificing a part of the invest- j ' meot of the first mortgage bondholders, j and the plan was abandoned. It was ? theo determined to place the road in i the hands of tbe courts as the most ] available method of protecting the in- j Crests of the parties. The present suit was brought by j holders ci second mortgage bouds, but -as I BQQCfstand, it has the approval of : a large number of bolder? of first mort? gage bonds. ' "As to my own purposes and views, . The ?rates of travel will be very cheap and re will furnish tents for all who desire ffhem so tbat the trip will cost very little sod will afford a most pleasant and en? joyable opportunity for your men to at? tend the fair and participate in its festi? vities.
