There is no doubt at all, that scores of Methodist Preachers will meet in Baltimore next December, who ate superior to John Wesley as to oratory, literary polish and platform 1 force ;*but how would it jingle for us to stand np and brag, how the young? er children had soperceded the older ones ? Bishop Pierce says instead of going into spasms for money, we had better go for a grand Centennial Revival. Then the money will come with the scriptural prerequisite to make it ef? fective. Our Preach? ers in charge, are expected to organ? ize oar Sunday Schools into juvenile Missionary Societies. This is well enough, and to teach them to give, is still better ; but to use arguments un? heard of in the Bible to excite liberal? ity in their little minds is wrong. To tell the dear little lambs that their dimes might save poor little African or Chinese children, from a hell of un? quenchable fire, is saying what the holy Scriptures have not said. I think it right for the Church to send the Gospel wherever it has not gone. But until the light is brought to bear upon Pagans and Heathens how can they be judged by it ? Suppose the enemies of Christianity should succeed in destroying it. Tiri.? is what they mean, if they mean any? thing. Suppose the Bible burned, the churches closed, the pulpits silenced, all i'hristian schools of instruction ?top ped ale Christian institutions of what? ever kind overthrown, all Christian doo- i trines. Christian piety. Christian duty, ' Christian worship. Christian inOuence Christan life in publicand private, in the Church and in thc family, by individuals and communities, to be wholly a thing of the past, and no trace of them permit? ted to remain anywhere in all the land. This would be the result if they should succeed in their insane crusade against Christianity. What would we choose in? stead? Whatsystems now prevailing any in the wide worjd would we adopt io where place of discarded Christianity ? Where would we look for a better system than that which we would so wholly re? nounce ? We have cut down this tree ; where do we find another that boars better fruit? Let us look around and see what systems prevail in the world, and under whose control large numbers of the people are now living. Which would be seleeted in place of Christian? ity renounced?-Christian Neighbor. Railroad Engineers.
