L It Aims and Purposes of Bolshevism. ^ Bolshevism is not a rule of the ! jority, and does not claim to be, but is frankly the rule by force of arms I of a majority, and the power of the fv-M present rulers of Russia rests upon precisely the same basis as that upon which rested the yower of the Czar and his Grand Dukes. Bolshevism is not democracy, but violently hates democracy. The peasants, who are the real majority in Russia, no not favor Sovietism, but submit because they have to. Minetv ner cent of the Ri,tJ<=ians are - v r? peasants. These are cowed by a small group of fanatics who hold tho army. Bolshevism is not a Russian or Slo vac movement, and it is not "the natural expression of the Slavic genius": nor "the traditional Russian idea of. democracy," as its American apologists have alleged. All Russians, whether for or against Bolshevism, hail it as something new and international Any Sovietist would be in suited if you declared his cause to be in any "le^ree either a national or traditional development. Bolshevism is in no sense a devel opment of the Russian mir. the histoi issmara:;; . anauBinKaig \ j Sleep Ir "FAUL1 SINCE PAJAMAS AND . It is a sect, not a political party Its object is not the orderly govern ment of itussia. Its object is to ere ate a revolution throughout th< world. Its avowed purpose is to do stroy democracy. The Bolshevists are not idealists but their openly avowed aim is to ge power by hook or crook. In fine, Bolshevism is simply th< worst form of reaction, by the mos exthavagant extremists, against th? old Czarism, and is quite as bad, anis even more of an enemy to all tha democracy and civilization stand for than the Czarism is supplanted.?B; William Knglish Walling. o?
