ARROWSMITH, Kingstree, S. 0 Cut Out the Credit System ?n< High Time Prices The credit system is the mos: dangerous enemy of the cottox farmer. Creditors compel him to sel lis cotton below the cost of produc don to settle store accounts. Supplj merchants feed his family and plow stock at credit prices from March! jntil the harvesting period, andthez iemand every bale of cotton as fasl is it is ginned to pay debts. This system precipitates a tremendous *ush of spot cotton on the markets ind the price is often depressed beow the cost of production until jractically all of the crop is out oi he farmer's hands. As a result oi he disastrous effects of low-pricec :otton," every business interest as veil as the farmer suffers. The remedy for low-priced cottor s a simple one. If the large majori;y of the farmers in the Cotton Bell vill grow the necessary food anc eed for home use, a medium-sized :rop of cotton will be grown and the vorld will gladly pay the cost of >roduction and a fair profit for it If the cotton farmers will make heir farms self-sustaining, in food ind feed supplies, they can harvesl heir cotton crop and store it unie: i dry shed and sell it whenever t'ru jrice offerer! shows a satisfactory jrofit. Now is the time to take steps tc ix a price for the 1910 cotton crop Lot us grow good gardens, truck >atches, poultry and milk cows anc >uy only what we are obliged ti tave ca.-h for. even if it is necessary to borrow money from the bank Let us live at home and practice :he most rigid economy and gel iway from the credit system.
