G. W. Camlin, of the Trio, Sutton? j
section has 5 acres of "corn" entered s
for the $1,000 cash prize and gold i
medal in the $10,500 crop contest, of
The Farm Journal of Philadelphia.
This contest, endorsed by agricultural
authorities everywhere, offers
$1,000 cash prize for the best
five acres of corn, wheat, oats, alfalfa,
potatoes and corn. Along with
the thousand dollar prize goes a
gold medal. The second prize is
$500.00 and with it goes a silver
medal. The third prize is $250.00
and with it goes a bronze medal.
Moreover, there are forty certificates
of yield to be awarded in this
county. Each certificate means that
its possessor has grown more than
a superior crop, and that the seed
from it is worth a fancy price.
.Mr. Camlin has a good chance to
win the $1,000 prize for producing
the best five acre yield in the United
States. He is a good farmer, and
besidesthis big yield honor has been
won once by a Williamsburg hoy.

The 3.50 p. m. train Friday afterjnoon
carried a jolly party of Shrin
ers to Kings tree where they were [
entertained in a royal manner by
the Noble3 of that section headed '

extended, the party entered the 4
waiting automobiles and were taken 1

delicious "pine bark" fish stew. The
party returned most enthusiastic
about the hospitality of their Kings- i

show them an equally good time in j

Cut Out the Credit System ?n<
High Time Prices
The credit system is the mos:
dangerous enemy of the cottox
farmer. Creditors compel him to sel
lis cotton below the cost of produc
don to settle store accounts. Supplj
merchants feed his family and plow
stock at credit prices from March!
jntil the harvesting period, andthez
iemand every bale of cotton as fasl
is it is ginned to pay debts. This
system precipitates a tremendous
*ush of spot cotton on the markets
ind the price is often depressed beow
the cost of production until
jractically all of the crop is out oi
he farmer's hands. As a result oi
he disastrous effects of low-pricec

veil as the farmer suffers.
The remedy for low-priced cottor
s a simple one. If the large majori;y
of the farmers in the Cotton Bell
vill grow the necessary food anc
eed for home use, a medium-sized
:rop of cotton will be grown and the
vorld will gladly pay the cost of
>roduction and a fair profit for it
If the cotton farmers will make
heir farms self-sustaining, in food
ind feed supplies, they can harvesl
heir cotton crop and store it unie:
i dry shed and sell it whenever t'ru
jrice offerer! shows a satisfactory
jrofit.
