The fall session of Kintrstree Hi? and Graded school opened Monda morning: under higrhly favorable cor litions. A teachers' meeting:, a which a fuil corps was present, wa held at the school building Saturday when a programme for the open:nj dav was arranged. The exercises incident to the open ing of the 1916-17 session took plac< in the auditorium at 9 o'clock an< were attended by a large represent ation of parents and others inter ested in the welfare of the institu tion. The enrollment of pupils in al grades numbered 211, an increase over previous years on the opening day. The exercises, presided over b) by Superintendent Swittenberg, con sisted of vocal and instrumental mu ?ic,and short addresses by the clerg\ if the town. McCULLOUGH'S REPORT. n Interesting Facts Concerning the Schools of Williamsburg. h County Superintendent of Educay tion J G McCullouprh has just comi pleted his annual report, which has t been forwarded to the State Supers intendent of Education at Columbia. , Tne report of Mr McCulloucrh is in; teresfing. It shows that there are fifty-seven school districts in the - county, fifty of which are levying! special taxes, twenty having levied special taxes for this year. The average term of the country sthools during the session of 1915-16 was 124.6 days. The average term of town schools was 135.7 days. There were 3348 white pupils with 123 teachers and 63 schools. There were 5398 colored pupils with 84 teachers. Of the 63 white schools there were 15 two-teacher schools; 4' three-teacher schools, and eight with i more than three teachers, tl The total expenditure for white t j schools amounted to $52.846.35., jThe total expenditure for negro 1 ! schools amounted to $6,753.12.
