Isaac Monsau.a white man of foreign birth, was arrested here last Saturday by Policeman Epps upon advices received from the police department of Fayetteville.N C, where Monsau is wanted for larceny. The prisoner is being held in the countyjail here pending the result of his counsels' efforts to secure habeas corpus proceedings, which they are endeavoring to obtain. Capt Robert F Jennings, United States internal revenue collector, ; was in Kingstree last week pestering ! the merchants with reference to the I new war tax stamps which will go j into use throughout the United States December 1. The penalty fixed for j the first violation of this new law is a fine of $500 or six months in a Fed' eral prison. The first of the series of lyceum attractions scheduled to take place here during the winter was held at ; the school auditorium Tuesday night before a small but appreciative audience. Columbia, November 11.?Acting upon an opinion by the Attorney General, State Treasurer Carter today consented to pay claims to be presented by John L McLaurin, State warehouse commissioner. The Attorney General held that any available fund in the State treasury could be used for the expense of the warehouse system. The appropriation is $15,000. Mr. McLaurin went to Lake City today to accept a warehouse for the State system. Big assortment of Thanksgiving Cards at Brockington's Drug Store. 10-12-2t Death of Capt W D Fitch. A 'phone message was received here yesterday announcing the death of Capt W D Fitch, which occurred at the home of his son, Mr R B Fitch, at Pergamos Tuesday afternoon. Capt Fitch was about 75 years of age, a veteran of the Civil war, and a good citizen. For two years, 1909-10, he was jailor here and made an efficient officer. About the latter part of the year 1910 he was stricken with paralysis, and retired to his old home, but he never fully recovered. He was buried in the old Casselman burying ground yesterday afternoon at P. o'clock. % The Pee Dee Fair at Florence begins today. The "Little Gate City" has made elaborate preparations for the entering of the stranpers within her gates in her usual hospitable style. We hope the fair may be in every respect a successful affair. The Railroad Commission issued an order yesterday permitting the Atlantic Coast Line railroad to discontinue trains No 46 and 47, between Lanes and Florence. The new schedule becomes effective Sunday. Several other trains on the system will be discontinued on account of lack of patronage. The exhibit by the girls' tomato clubs of this county Saturday promises to be an interesting show.
