The annual convention of the Southeast Baptist association, which assembled in the Presbyterian church Thursday, concluded its labors yes fcerday morning and adjourned 10 meet next year at Seranton. The association is made up of the churches ^^in Georgetown and Williamsburg pHfnd a part of Florence counties. At the morning session organization was perfected by the election of Rev H B Jones as moderator, Mr R | B Cannon of Seranton as clerk, and Mr B T Brockinton of Kingstree, as treasurer. L Following the election several reI ports were read and discussed, as K follows: On State Missions?DiscusI sion by Dr W T Dorieux, of the State Mission board, who made a I " powerful address on the work, its success and its needs. It was report ed that the association had raised B this vear SI.100, wh'ch was all that was asked of it. In this connection it may be stated thatythe association showed a clean sheet For all mission I work. The report on education was I then discussed by Rev Howard Lee 1 Jones,the silver-tongued orator, who is president of Coker college, and Dr Jones probably never made a rkier or more convincing speech, i In the afternoon the report on IV temperance was discussed strongly I by Mr R B Cannon and others. The [ report en Women's Work, an able , paper written by Mrs E G Carpenter, was read. This has been characv>" terized as. r.e * the K-st reports T ever heard by the association. The : report on Aged .Ministers was dis? cussed by Messrs .1 W Truluek, E P Easterling and P K Truluek. At the night session the annual (sermon was preached by Rev E P { Easterling?a masterly effort. Pol ?ing the sermon trse report on Sunday-schoo's was discussed by Rev y T J Watt, whose theme was, "Our ? Sunday-school Problems and How to Solve Them." , Friday morning- "Home Missions" was the subject discussed by Dr W J Langston, of the Home Mission board, Atlanta, Ga, and "Foreign i Missions" was discussed by Dr J A Brown of Kingsbury. The sinking fund commission has made arrangements to borrow $110, 848.52 to cover appropriations made during the extraordinary session. The money was borrowed of the Palmetto National bank of Columbia until Fohrnnrr 1 at fi ner cent. The notes were signed by S T Carter, A W Jones, Neils Christensen and G W Dick, members of the commission. The Governor, a member of the commission,ex-officio, did not attend the meeting. George W Dick, chairman of the ways and means committee of the House, was elected chairman of the sinking fund commission, to take the place of Senator P L Hardin, resigned. Olanta Observations.
