Lake City, April 8:?Last Friday afternoon the Lake City High school basebail team went down in defeat to the Marion school team on the baseball diamond here, the score being 9 to 6. This result is attributable more to lack of practice than to any other one thing and it is to be hoped that our boys will avail themselves of these balmy spring afternoons by practicing and using all their efforts in defeating rival teams in the near future. Much excitement prevailed here last Thursday morning when a horse owned by Mr W B Mishoe becamed frightened and raced excitedly up the main street, dashing the buggy to fragments, bruising himself and the horse slightly. Mr J M Truluck has just returned from an extended trip to Tate Springs, Tenn, having gone there to recuperate after a business trip to Indiana. Mise Kittie Mae Bolton of Newnan, Ga, is the|guest of her cousin, Mrs Marie Askins, of this city. Mr Fred Hine3, a former resident of this place, now with a prominent insurance company in Columbia, was in town several days this week, stopping at the Halcyon hotel. Dr and Mrs A H Williams returned home Thursday morning after a very pleasant trip to South Florida. Hon J Davis Carter and his son, Mr L Carter, of Leo were in town last Thursday. Mrs R A Brown was in town shopping last Friday. Among our out-of-town friends in town shopping last Saturday were: Misses Maggie and Milwe Gaskins, Leila Johnson and Pat Hannah. Miss Elizabeth Jones will leave this morning for a visit to her sistsr, Mrs Jack Payter, in Florida. A new branch of the Farmers & Merchants Bank of this city will be opened at Pamlico on the first day of July. This, when established, will be the third of its kind operated by the main institution, the other two being located at Johnsonville and Coward. The substantial growth of this bank bespeaks the general state of improvement in the community within which it is located.
